Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Shadle.
Abby, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I remember getting my first camera when I was 12 or 13 and thinking I was so talented and wanted to take photos of all of my friends – we would do “photoshoots” in the street all the time, and the photos would turn out so so bad, but I was so passionate about taking photos. It’s just sort of always been my thing. I never thought I would carry photography past my AP art classes in high school, but now, almost four years ago, it has turned into something I could not have imagined. Today, I’m shooting weddings, traveling around the country, and meeting so many kind and fun people every single weekend. I am so grateful for how many people have trusted me with someone of the biggest moments of their life, and who have allowed me to play a small part of those moments. I will never take this passion for granted and will continue to grow and learn.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s funny how the things we are passionate about are also the things that sometimes we really struggle with. Of course, like anything in life, there are times where you are working hard and are feeling motivated, encouraged and are creating with purpose. There are also times where you feel drained, you compare yourself to others who are excelling, and you feel ill-equipped. When I am in seasons of feeling drained and feeling inadequate, I have to remember why I fell in love with photography in the first place; I have to remind myself that I have been put in this position for a reason, that people see potential and greatness in me, and I have to literally call myself higher than the defeated feelings that sometimes come swarming in. Something that I constantly have to remind myself is that since I have been called and have been faithful with my ‘yes’, The Lord will be faithful to equip me and go before me.
I think young people, especially young women, really struggle with comparison in this day and age. I really encourage young women to strive for greatness in their own way and to be faithful to what they have been called to. I see so many young people seeking success in an area that they aren’t called to because they see someone else being successful in that. Every one is made for a specific purpose, and you will not even begin to step into what is prepared ahead of you if you are too busy looking to the left and right at what everyone else has in front of them. Focus on yourself – your passions, your calling, and your journey of tapping into that greatness.

In this season of my work, I do a lot of senior photos, engagements, weddings, bridal portraits, and families! I really enjoy every type of session, but recently I have been in love with engagement + couple sessions. Building relationships with my couples makes my heart smile, and I feel like I leave my shoots with new friends every time!
I hope to be known for producing images that are natural. I’ve never been keen on editing to where you don’t even look like yourself anymore – I really make sure to catch you in natural moments, with natural movement and expression.
I work so hard to give my clients a good experience before, during and even after their session. I am constantly working on ways to improve ways of communication, thinking of new ideas to implement into the creative side of my business, and seeking inspiration from other creatives. I love the creative culture that surrounds photographers – it is so beautiful and inspiring.
I always put myself in the shoes of a client – considering how they want to be treated post-session. I make sure to always send my favorite photos the night of a session because I know the anticipation and excitement of waiting to see the photos. I know I wouldn’t be able to wait, so I make sure my clients don’t have to. I deliver my galleries within a week of their session and include every good photo – even the funny ones that I know will make them smile. I don’t believe in limiting the photos they receive – photos are too precious to put a limit on.
Who have you been inspired by?
I am so blessed to be surrounded by so many strong, beautiful and hard-working women in my life. Of course, my mom has played a huge role in pushing me to pursue the things I’m passionate about. She is my biggest fan and calls out the greatness in me when I sometimes can’t see it in myself. She loves hard and does her best at whatever it is. She shows kindness and exudes joy – always finding something to be thankful for. She has taught me so much about life and being obedient to the call on my life. I have women in my life who speak life over one another, cheer each other on, and rejoice in every victory. Women who know who they, who are secure in their identity and understand the power they possess are forces to be reckoned with. I am so thankful for every passionate, creative, and kind woman in my life that has taught me what it looks like to live with purpose and to say yes to the doors that have been so graciously opened before me.
