Today we’d like to introduce you to Corina Garza.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Corina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was 24, I was working at a realtor’s company as a property manager, I was excited about my job working as a professional, dressing up in nice clothes, having my own desk and office. After some time went by, I started becoming unhappy because there was something missing I couldn’t put a finger on it. I got fired, and that made me realize I didn’t want to work for anyone again. I decided to think about new career goals and also being a single mother with a child that was five years old at the time, I wanted to be more than just a good mom. I choose art I wanted to be a makeup artist. I didn’t wear makeup that much at all and never felt that I needed it. I choose makeup simply for art. I decided to go to the best school in the USA. During my research, I found the best schools are on the east coast or west coast. I attended a makeup art school in Soho, NY the Multimedia program in 2014. After many sacrifices, I graduated from my program. Settling back to Dallas, I decided to be a freelancer and travel until I found what field of makeup I wanted to be in. I’m 31 years old now, attending college for my Bachelor’s Degree in Business. My long lost friend Jason introduced me to the cosmetic industry. Now, I have my own cosmetic line and still freelance as a makeup artist in the city local. Being a businesswoman and enjoying being a mom to a 12-year-old is pretty amazing.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road for me starting out. You will make bad business choices if you’re not careful. Trusting the wrong people and knowledge on how to hire the right people for your team. The advice I would like to give to another young woman out there thinking or trying start, be consistent and everything will fall in place. Embrace the struggles and your success is not a race. Learn as much as you can with the industry you choose to work in.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
