Today we’d like to introduce you to Onyinyechi Ogomaka.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Onyinyechi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
From a young age, I always knew I was destined to be “great”… but didn’t know exactly how. So I tried to put myself into professions my culture referred to as “the best options”. Those options included: doctor, lawyer, engineer, surgeon, nursing… pretty much all the careers in STEM. I admire anyone in any of those careers but I knew it wasn’t for me. I tried everything in my being to grow an interest in these professions, but it didn’t work out. I wasn’t being honest with myself and who God had created me to be. That’s when I realized I needed to actually understand who that person even is. I had to do some soul-searching and deepening of my relationship with God in order to really figure it out.
I was constantly looking within myself while seeking God’s guidance through the Word and the people around me. I took time to myself and God with limited distractions to journal about my gifts, abilities, passions, hobbies, likes, dislikes, strengths, weaknesses, impact on the people around me, social media presence…pretty much everything that had to do with me. I had to better understand the character of God and actively seek Him day in and day out. This is a continuous process, it never really ends but when I became intentional about this pursuit of God, I figured out what my mark in this world is: “I am a light electrified by God and placed in the world to bring joy to everyone near or far. He has tasked me to discover and capture His people the way they are intended to be.” —- Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV) 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
God showed me how our purpose isn’t just a hobby or something fun to do, it is that and more. He has called for us all to use our passions to impact the world in whichever way that may be to glorify Him. My love for content creation, concept development, and branding are not to be taken lightly… It is a powerful gift from God. He continues to show me every minute of the day how valuable that is.
When I realized I could make a career out of this… IT WAS A WRAP. I went at it with full force. I forgot about my forced pursuits to be a part-time doctor by day – a lawyer by night and embraced the creative opportunities God gave me to use my light to impact the world. So that’s how I got to where I am today, that is how to really be “great”… embracing the gifts and talents God has given you and using it to impact the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been entirely smooth, but that’s okay! There have been potholes, bumps, and wrong turns, but I know that it’s all part of the testimonies I have told and will tell. Without them, I wouldn’t be as focused and strong as I am today.
For example: When I officially decided to self-brand in 2017, my mentor advised me to take all that I learned about who I am, my gifts or passions and create a website to showcase it… I had never created a website in my life! My mentor gave me a bit of direction but she was strategic with it. She couldn’t give me too much because I had to learn and gain confidence in my God-given abilities. It took some time, quite a few failed efforts and tears but it came together in the beautiful product that it is today: https://onyinyechicogomaka.com/ Now, I offer website development services! I needed that bump in the road in order to help others create websites showcasing their own gifts/passions. It all came full circle and I am forever grateful.
We’d love to hear more about your work.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
In all honesty, I don’t believe in “luck”. Everything that has happened to me was supposed to happen the way it did for a reason. Instead of “wishing to get lucky”, I ask for God to have His way in everything. I know that God has the master plan of my life and I will do everything I can to work towards that.
