Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Davis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I randomly fell into my nails not long after a friend of mine brought over a giant bag of nail polish one night. At the time I didn’t even get my nails done on a regular basis… just a special occasion. Later on, I bought my first acrylic nail kit (and failed miserably at my first acrylic set) so I trashed the kit and started polishing my nails a few times a week. I eventually discovered Tumblr and learned about nail art.. from there my little hobby exploded into a passion for nails. Friends and family were asking me to polish their nails.
Eventually, I signed up for nail school, finished in a record seven months! (That was fast considering I was a part-time, night student) I worked in two salons before I finally decided to go out on my own. I’m hard-headed so working for someone else doesn’t last too long for me! Lol
And here we are today! I’ve been on my own for about three years now and I have AMAZING clients!
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all! The first salon job I had was very discouraging! My boss at the time wouldn’t allow me to take clients unless it was a manicure or pedicure. She felt like I was “too new” to put on the floor.. I couldn’t do acrylic nails at all, but I needed the practice. She wasn’t having it tho. I honestly hated working there and I almost quit because of how much I hated it! I thought I’d be happier at a call center.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a nail artist based in San Antonio TX. I specialize in acrylic and hard gel as well as nail art. I do a lot of hand-painted nail art (my favorite type of art to do)
I’m most proud of how much I care for my clients. Women come to me telling me their horror stories from chop shop salons all the time… when they leave my chair, their perception of nail techs changes… their fingers don’t hurt.. they aren’t bleeding when they leave.. when they ask for a specific design, I can do it with no issue unlike most of the places they’ve been.
What sets me apart from others is the fact that I do care about my clients and the integrity of their nails. Most salons look at you as a $ sign and nothing more. When you come to me, you become my friend!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
It’s actually a great area for nail techs. SA is pretty big and there are a ton of women looking for quality nail services in the city. I would definitely recommend starting here!
