Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Persicke and Mark Perlioni.
Angela and Mark, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When Mark and I met, he shared his passion for cooking with me. When he asked if I enjoyed cooking, my response was, “No, but I love eating and drinking wine while others cook!” So, he made it his mission to help me see how wonderful it was to cook, and in doing so we bonded over all kinds of food adventures – cooking, discovering fun new restaurants, traveling to foodie cities, discovering unique ingredients, and meeting like-minded people.
Of course, I captured all of our adventures on my personal Instagram account. One day, a friend said to me, “You should start one of those cooking Instagram accounts!” So, @cooking_with_wine was born in January of 2018. We didn’t have big plans at that point, but soon we started creating new recipes and sharing them on our account. As our following began to grow, I realized I needed to step up our photography game. I pulled out my old Nikon and started watching every YouTube video I could find on Food Photography, and I learned how to take photos that make our food look as amazing as it tastes!
Now we have a beautiful community of foodies following our journey and enjoying our recipes along with us.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our biggest struggle is getting exposure through social media platforms. Social media has changed the way they display posts in the last few years, and now it is much more difficult for people to see what we share. We aren’t trying to be famous food bloggers or anything like that, but we want to share our recipes with others, and this is challenging when the majority of people, even your own followers, aren’t able to see what you post.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Cooking with Wine Blog focuses on all things food and drink, but specifically our favorite recipes, or new recipes we love! We make everything from easy weeknight meals to fancy dinners to impress. We bake homemade bread and make delicious desserts. We also love sharing recipes for our favorite cocktails. Something we try to do is show you how to incorporate unique ingredients into your meals. Additionally, we are big supporters of local farmers and ranchers and often feature ingredients from farmers markets and local businesses.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Cooking with Wine Blog wouldn’t be what it is today without the support of our online foodie community. These individuals support our efforts, inspire us to be creative, congratulate us on our successes, and pick us up when the game gets us down. There are too many to name here, but this online community has made this journey well worth the efforts.
Additionally, on the photography end, I have had several very encouraging people who have allowed me to photograph their products and have shared our posts with their followers. These people include Ben and Grace Shaw at Texas Craft Wagyu, Amy Turner at Sweet Legacies, and the wonderful people who run the Coppell Farmer’s Market. They have helped us to get our name out there locally, and reach more people.
