Meet Krystal Diaz of Danzavida De San Antonio Dance Company in San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Diaz.

Krystal, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my Dance journey at two years old and by my teens, I was dancing professionally throughout Texas, Mexico and the Carribean. At age 16 I founded Danzavida De San Antonio Dance Company, an electrifying dance Company offering dance disciplines in Ballet Folklorico, Spanish Flamenco, Salsa, Samba and Hip Hop. I was hungry to become an entrepreneur and I felt I wanted to give back to my San Antonio Community through the Performing Arts. I have instructed hundreds of students throughout my 12 years in business and I continue to perfect my craft to be the best I can be for my dance students. As an Artistic Director and owner, I feel blessed to have the ability to provide dance education to many along with introducing them to the beautiful art of dance.

In 2014, I founded my 2nd business Miss Reina Latina San Antonio Scholarship Pageant available to Latin Women providing the winning representatives a college scholarship to further their education. This program gives young women a platform to express their opinions while serving their communities. Our mission statement is to promote the intelligence, talent and beauty of Latinas. In 2008 and 2009 I have represented San Antonio, Texas as Miss San Antonio Oustanding Teen and in 2010, I was named Miss San Antonio with the Miss America Franchise. I had the honor to compete for Miss Teen Texas and Miss Texas in Dallas, Texas.

These remarkable titles and experiences were the inspiration for founding my very own pageant. My first Organization was founded in 2007, Krystal for Kids was was created to provide an entertainment outlet to many sick children of the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. In most recent years it provides the most precious teddy bears for its patients that are delivered each holiday season. With my love of music and dance, I became a Latin Recording Artist in 2018 releasing a few Spanish singles that have made the airwaves throughout the United States and landed me the opportunity to perform in Hollywood, California for Estrella TV for a Nationally syndicated Spanish television show. I must say it was a dream to perform my first recorded single on national television. I am currently working on my album. I feel extremely blessed but I continue to work hard unleashing all the passions and goals I have set for my life. My lifelong dream is to leave a legacy of a sincere humanitarian leaving an imprint on the world, making it a better place. I want to let our youth know that anything is possible with hard work and passion.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been working my entire life perfecting my craft of dance. I recently celebrated 25 years within the performing arts. The biggest challenge has been my age. Many saw a teenager running a small business and were not that accepting at the beginning. I had to work very hard and prove I was capable to provide solid dance education to many. Luckily for me, I had a strong talent and passion to produce one of the most successful dance companies within San Antonio, Texas. Since its inception, its dancers have performed on extraordinary stages throughout Texas and became Award-winning showcasing amazing talented dancers and beautiful costumes which quickly caught the eye of many. Danzavida has prospered throughout the years. It has been a long road but I continue to work hard and give my all to my students Danzavida De San San Antonio proudly awards one of its elite dancers with the Krystal Diaz Dance Scholarship in the amount of $500.00 and awarded over $5,000 in scholarships since 2010.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the owner and Artistic Director of Danzavida De San Antonio Dance Company. I offer a dance education to students ages two to adult. I also provide choreography for Quinceaneras and Weddings. My specialty is working with children in Latin Dance. Danzavida is one of the few dance companies that offer dance lessons to 2-year-old. I think this is what sets us apart from many. This makes me very proud as many of my tiny dancers dance an array of dance disciplines. They are professionally trained at a very young age just as I was and it’s a great feeling to have something artistically come full circle.

The Miss Reina Latna San Antonio Scholarship Pageant proudly provides an educational scholarship to its representatives and is the only Latin pageant that offers a Scholarship along with providing a platform to showcase their talent and community service initiatives. I am the founder and executive director.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is growing up with my only sister Jacquelyn. We have created many memories together. We danced together for many years.
