Meet Mark Ayers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Ayers.

Mark, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born into a musical family where everyone was either a singer or they played an instrument so it was destined for me to have some sort of musical ability. In 4th grade, I started playing the violin and later transitioned to the trombone and the drums as a 5th grader. Around 11 years old, my desire to focus on the drums increased more and more.

My dad, who played multiple instruments, always played the bass at church so it intrigued me. As he was practicing at home I told him that I wanted to learn how to play because playing the drums was becoming boring to me. He responded “I’ll show you the basics, but if you’re serious you’ll develop your own style.”

At the age of 17, I started traveling with different artist and playing big events. To this day I’m very appreciative to the people that took a chance on me. When I went off to college, around the age of 20, I began writing and producing music for other artist which open the door for different opportunities. It was at this moment I knew I needed to take this more seriously. As I began to grow in my craft, I started writing and producing for myself and things took off from there; I’ve been blessed to tour and perform on some pretty important stages.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely has been a bumpy road just because of either lack of resources/money or people walking out on me that I thought was really down with me. People want to play in the game but don’t want to shoot shots with you in the gym.

Another obstacle was myself because I took time for everybody else’s music and projects that weren’t serious enough but I kept my own stuff on hold. Overall I prayed and let God lead me to make the important steps I needed to make so I wouldn’t keep wasting time on those types of people and things.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have so many that I can thank but for now I’ll state the pivotal ones. Thank God for giving me the ability and favor. My grandad (who’s gone from here) that always held me accountable and poured into me spiritually.

My wife and biggest supporter, my mom who’s always pushed me and carved my business mind and interview skills at a young age. My dad who built me to be fearless and bolded also showing me to let my presence be known when I enter a room as well as keeping my integrity sharp. Don Hamilton who gave me my first shot outside of just playing in church, Tree Taylor who showed me my numbers and notes.
