Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason and Deidra Roe.
Jason is a homebrewer and craft beer enthusiast. We started taking “beercations” in 2013. Deidra figured out very quickly this was the trick to get Jason to travel. He was interested in touring various breweries that he had heard about or had enjoyed their beer. So we made a deal, for every brewery tour he wanted to go on, we would then go shop a small downtown in the area.
On one of our “beercations” to Austin, TX. We discovered Whichcraft Bottleshop. We knew immediately that we were inspired to do something similar and bring this cool concept to Rockwall.
It would be the perfect combination of his craft beer passion and knowledge and her retail background. We reached out to the owners of Whichcraft, Jody & Melissa Reyes, and they agreed to be our mentors. We were now on our way to creating our very own craft beer bottleshop.
The name Beer Geeks was serendipitous since we were chemistry partners in high school Chemistry.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Opening a business is never a smooth road. There are always obstacles and bumps along the way. It took us four weeks longer than we anticipated to get open. We did a soft opening on Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend May 2018. That Friday, two days after opening, our business air conditioner went out. The next week our water heater went out. But we have a superstition when things “break” or what others may call bumps along the way are a good sign that you are onto something successful.

Beer Geeks is a craft beer bottleshop. We have over 350 different craft beers from all over the world. Everything is organized by style and priced as singles, so you can build a custom pack out of anything, everything in the store.
Our tag line is “Where it’s okay to geek out about beer!” We are super proud to be geeks and to play up that whole theme. We even have geek glasses in the shop! We want people to be comfortable and welcome in our store. It’s okay to just be starting on your craft beer journey. That’s what we are there for, to help you develop your palette. We love talking about beer! The craft beer industry is growing at a crazy pace and it is exciting to be a part of that.
What were you like growing up?
Jason is an engineer by trade, so he has always had a love for tinkering and reverse engineering things, figuring out how they are made, how they work. Deidra is an artist by nature. She thrives in a creative environment. Together, they perfectly balance each other. When one is dramatic, the other is calm. Very yin and yang.
