Today we’d like to introduce you to Tayree Sandoval.
Tayree, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I had no idea how huge my passion was for the beauty industry. I had received my license right after high school but never pursued a career within the beauty industry. I was working for Wells Fargo as a personal banker at the time when I started to get individual eyelash extensions myself. I fell in love with my eyelashes every time my lash tech-filled them in and I loved how they would make me feel beautiful aside from how convenient they are in the mornings when I needed to get ready for work. I started getting a lot of girls at the bank asking about my eyelash extensions, that’s when I decided to give it a try and learn. Eyelash extensions were not as popular back in 2014 when I decided to learn, so I did not think of it as a career or a job. I just wanted to learn it as a hobby because quitting my bank job never went through my mind. I started to practice with my sisters and friends. after a few months of charging them 25 dollars, I started to learn volume and charged 60 dollars for the following two years.
At this point I still did not have any social media for my work nor did I know what other lash artists were charging for a set of eyelash extensions. My whole clientele were referrals and word of mouth, and I thought I was making really good side money back then. In 2017 I got pregnant with my second child and decided to quit my Wells Fargo job to go back to college, I had even quit doing lashes as soon as I found out about my pregnancy. After a few semesters in college, I realized that it was not what I wanted to do and started to miss lashing. I missed my clients and their big smiles after getting a set of lashes, I missed making them feel pretty. So I quit college. The time I had before delivering my baby I used to research more about eyelash extensions and lash artists around the city. I met another wonderful lash artist who loved what they did and helped me with coming back to the lash industry as my only job with higher prices and social media. I was afraid to come back and lose all my clients with the new higher prices.
My husband had decided to stay home for a few months to help me with our kids. To my surprise, soon after I had my baby I received a large number of direct messages through social media about being ready to book with me. I was working sunrise to sundown, there were days I did not get to see daylight or eat. I had so many clients waiting for an appointment with me and I could never say no so I would work twelve to thirteen hours shifts some days. I decided to move to a Suite by myself on Camp Bowie Blvd in Fort Worth, I knew working from home and beauty salons could only take me so far. Lashmebrows began to grow rapidly. A few months later I hired my first employee, I trained her and introduced her to my clients. She is a really sweet girl and fast learner so she picked up on my techniques pretty fast. Before I knew it, she was also booked all the time. After her, I decided to hire three more amazing lash artist and now we are a team of five. Lashmebrows is continuing to grow and we cant wait to see what the future has in store for us.
Has it been a smooth road?
More than a bumpy road it has been nothing but learning experiences. Starting a business is a lot more difficult than I ever imagined, I still have a lot to learn. There have been numerous times where I have lost my motivation but quitting has never been an option. It takes a lot of determination to get up after every failure but this is also what keeps me going and get back up stronger. I find all the stress, anxiety and running around exciting, always looking for “what’s next”. I have had to learn to accept good and bad criticism and understand that not everyone will like our work. We have had to learn how to deal with bad experiences as a team to create a good comfortable working environment.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Eyelash extensions are so popular, I only see this industry growing. They have become a necessity for most women. I also get eyelash extension and I don’t see a time where I will not want them on. I believe there will be new trends and styles coming up but we are ready to learn any new beauty trends in our Industry.
