Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Booth.
Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in the homecare field in March 2008 and grew the passion for it ever since. My experience started out at a group home in Leesville, La. I worked there for a year then went and worked for a home care agency in June 2009 and stayed there until August 2017, when I moved to Fort Worth. Throughout the years of my homecare experience, my passion became even stronger, I had the opportunity of being a lead caregiver, interviewer, and a scheduler.
I always wanted to own a business since my teenage years just never knew in what until I started in this field. Once I moved to Fort Worth I resumed my work experience in the homecare field and became a home care supervisor for an agency. It was hard adjusting after working for one agency eight years so I then started researching how to open my own home care agency. I was determined so with research, dedication, and self-motivation I was blessed to open Southern Love Home Care in 2019.
Special shout out to my husband, Jerry and kids Javeun, Jamese, Joren, Alonzo, and Dontae they helped in any way they could and encouraged me at times when I wanted to give up. I am thankful for my family and appreciate them very much. With me having experience in Dementia/Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Schizophrenia, Mental illness, Seizures, Diabetes, Depression, Multiple Sclerosis and a few others I will be able to make sure my caregivers/CNAs take proper care of clients.
I love my logo I came up with. Since I am from DeRidder, Louisiana I am able to bring some Louisiana flavor to my agency here in Texas. My colors are magenta pink, red, black, and white. I have a magnolia (Louisiana flower) inside the heart, that’s a representation of love in my eyes. Also as you notice my agency has SOUTHERN as part of its name because Louisiana is considered a southern state.
My tagline is ” Caring is in the heart, let us be a part”.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a challenge at first. I couldn’t afford a consultant or a coach so I had to do everything myself and that was very challenging and frustrating at times, but with the help of Facebook home care groups and google, I was able to do it. My application got rejected the first time around. I got discouraged but my faith is bigger than giving up so I corrected the problems and two weeks later I resubmitted it and it was approved.
