Life and Work with Sebani Rusamira

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebani Rusamira.

Sebani, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
So, I came to the US at the age of six and was immediately captivated with the creatives and just media, in general. I always told myself as a kid, I wanted to represent for all Congolese girls. Coming from poverty and then dealing with homelessness myself at such a young age of 16, I wanted to be a beacon of hope for another girl out there in my shoes. So, when I was homeless, I stopped creating and lost my way but the desire to impact was still very much alive in my heart and I knew my story would help someone. Even if it was just one person, I would and will continue sharing my story. And creating content is a great way to share my passion for Photography and a piece of myself also. But I can’t take all credits. How I am where I am right now is not my doing but the Lords. To be able to do what I do today and able to get out of the dangerous situations I was in, to be able to share my story is all due to Him. Also, my spiritual mother and ride or die Dante were with me every step of the way continuing to encourage and uplift me.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all and even at this moment, it’s still not a smooth road but it’s a road worth traveling down.
I’ve been homeless.
I’ve gotten more no’s than yes.
Lost a child.
Etc., etc.
It gets hard for sure anything you want in this life there will be tests and trials but how you respond and react is entirely up to you. Surround yourself with those that will be your anchor because when the storm comes you need reliable people who will hold you down. Also, check-in with yourself. Mental health is wealth. You don’t always get to be strong and act like you are alright. Seeking help doesn’t make you weak because it takes true courage to say I need help. Don’t give up tests and trials are all for amazing testimonies at the end.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m a content creator and currently working on my tech certificate. I love creating content and just being able to free myself creatively but also love computers and being tech-savvy so the best of both worlds.

I’m proud of my growth (personally, creativity, mentally, etc.). It’s slow but to me, it’s a testament to my determination. I didn’t stop even when it would’ve been easier to give up. Me!! I set myself apart. I feel like as individuals we bring something new and fresh to the table. And I can’t replicate you the same way no one can be me better than me.

Who have you been inspired by?
Esther: because you showed courage.
Michelle Obama
