Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristel Dion.
Kristel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
About ten years ago, I was working in retail helping women enhance their beauty and style with clothing. Most of my customers were great and we developed a relationship just based on being open and honest about life, in general. I hit a bump in the road, I loved retail because of the people but not the hours. I wanted the freedom to serve in my church and community and the demands of retail wouldn’t allow me to. I wanted more. An ability to share beauty and fashion tips and God. My god-sister was getting married in Sept of 2009 and she asked me to do her hair and make-up, after numerous compliments and encouragement from my mom and sister. I took the steps to become a hairstylist. January of 2010 was the beginning of my journey of strengths and opportunities. My strengths were the accomplishments and my opportunities were the things I needed help in. I always had and have opportunities! I am not perfect. After nine months, I became a hairstylist and loved it but had so much more to give. It wasn’t enough so I started a blog that reminds everyone about the truth about beauty and grace. We work so hard to keep our hair intact, eyebrows and lashes together. We simply can’t forget about the matters of the heart and how much we are loved in spite of what type of hair texture or skin tone we have. We must accept that we are enough!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not, some days I am up to my ears in shampoo and conditioner and some days, I’m home blogging or studying a new technique. Other opportunities have been attempting to perfect my craft, fears of not getting it right and making a ton of mistakes. It can kick your spirits down when business is slow or if you are not grasping a concept but the constant reminder is to not quit and keep trying. If no one else supports you, you have to encourage yourself through the word of God and prayer.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a hairstylist who specializes in nurturing healthy hair, whether it is natural or chemically treated. In order for hair to be great, it has to be healthy. Health is our number one priority at Hair by Kris. I only service clients one by one to ensure they are receiving quality service and care for their hair.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I really don’t know. *Laughs out loud* I just desire to satisfy my clients.
