Meet Jocelyn De La Fuente of Jocelyndlfuente in Seagoville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn De La Fuente.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jocelyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The journey to becoming the artist I am today started when I was only 15-years old when I picked up an NYC black liquid liner and managed to master a wing liner on myself. YouTube was one of my biggest sources when I was younger because I expanded my own knowledge through there. I would always watch different beauty gurus do tutorials and I would recreate them on my self.

As time passes by, this hobby of mine eventually became a passion, my friends and family would ask me to do their makeup for events and I would always do it for free or charge fifteen to twenty-five dollars the most. Believe it or not, I never took it seriously because I never had anyone tell me I could make a living out of this. Being an artist was something that was never praised at school like a nurse or lawyer would. However, once I graduated high school, I went to college but my first semester was horrible. I had no motivation to be there. All I knew was that I wanted a business in the makeup industry and college was certainly not taking me there. I ended up leaving after and I didn’t go back for my second semester. I enrolled myself in a Makeup School instead and worked full-time for a while to be able to pay it off on my own. I eventually graduated as a certified makeup artist in May and have been freelancing professionally for five months. I invested in my craft and it was probably one of the best things I’ve done for myself.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all, I think one of the biggest issues I’ve had has actually been pursuing it. I always felt like I couldn’t or I would make excuses. I was scared to try new things but with every failure I encountered, I tried even harder and eventually my hard work paid off. I learn from my mistakes and I never gave up.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Artistry. I am a makeup artist here in Dallas, Texas. I’ve been doing makeup for four years and five months professionally. I am extremely proud of myself, I can honestly say I’m my number one fan because I’ve grown to be the makeup artist I’ve always wanted to be due to the amount of work I’ve put into myself to strive for the better and there’s still so much room to grow. I’ve always has such a great character that I think my charisma is what sets me apart from others. I learn and will always share what I know with others. One day, and I’ll speak this into existence, I will open up my own business where I will share everything I know with others. I will become an educator in the makeup industry.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is when you can actually sit back and not complain about where you stand in life. I consider myself successful, I can tell you how happy I am with my life because I worked hard for what I want. One thing that helped me is the people I surrounded myself with and so should everyone else. Keeping away from bad energy or people who have no future for themselves is key to knowing that you don’t belong there. If you surround yourself with successful people, you will most likely grow to be successful.
