Meet Dean Fuller of Nick’s Sports Cards & Memorabilia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dean Fuller.

Dean, please share your story with us.
The founding owner, Nick Redwine, opened the store in July of 1989 at the very same location where we are today. The store has been selling sports cards and memorabilia to generations of customers–from young kids starting a collection to older adults looking to collect the cards of their sports idols from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Nick sold the store about a year and a half ago to me, who had been a customer for 20+ years, having taken my sons, Josh and Jake, to the store as kids. With fun contests and prizes, as well as an increased presence on social media, Nick’s, as the only sports card store in Dallas, continues to keep customers enthused and excited about collecting sports cards and memorabilia.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The proliferation of online sales directly from third parties has been a challenge. The brick and mortar store has a strong following with those who like the instant feel, look, and gratification coming with a big hit autograph or a limited card. A lot of collectors have also had bad experiences online. To keep people coming back, we offer a variety of contests and prizes–perks you can’t get when buying online. Our biggest hits with customers are our red ticket and white ticket drawings.

The half-yearly winner of the red ticket drawing has his pick of an autographed jersey hanging in the back of the store. On a weekly basis, we select six white tickets, and if your numbers match, you have your pick of a $25 or $50 gift card, of which there are three each. The last few red ticket winners selected LeBron James, Aaron Rodgers, and Stan Musial jerseys!

Nick’s Sports Cards & Memorabilia – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We sell all types of sports cards! Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, and Soccer are the most popular. Customers can purchase a box or pack of cards, or skim through the thousands of individually priced cards around the store, which start at 50 cents.

Customers are routinely impressed by the variety of our awesome vintage cards from the 1910s to the 1960s. Our affordable memorabilia selection is also one of the best around, with an emphasis on items from local players and teams, such as the Cowboys, Rangers, Stars, and Mavericks. We also carry the popular nationally known stars! We really do have something for everyone. We also have a tremendous amount of supplies to keep the collection looking pristine!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
With great customer service, use of social media, and plentiful stock of all cards, Nick’s continues to build customer traffic and generate interest for the hobbyist! Your hobby. Our passion.
