Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Richardson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My art is contemporary abstract expressionism in free form media.
I am a self-taught artist. I enjoy creating abstract paintings, sculptures, lighting fixtures, furniture, utilizing wood, metal, oil paint, acrylic paint, minerals, precious metals, dyes, resin and photography. My art is experimentation with new unconventional methods and media that give me the desired results of the moment and idea.
An Oklahoman by birth, I attended the University of Central Arkansas in Conway ultimately settling in the DFW area. While in school, I studied art and photography and had an early career as a portrait photographer in Conway and aerial photographer/printer/graphic artist at Landiscor Aerial Imaging (Landiscor Real Estate Mapping) Dallas. Later, I moved into the IT and telecommunications industry as a technical solutions architect and program manager for a very large telecommunications company.
I have been heavily influenced, directed and inspired by my father that taught art at the University of Central Oklahoma. My grandparents were well-respected artists in Oklahoma, her being named an Outstanding Oklahoma Women’s Artist. My inspiration comes from my observation of the free form beauty I see in nature because of my passion for rockhounding and mineral collecting, my family and love for music.
Placed first in photography at the Arkansas state journalism convention – 1991

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge has been hands-on learning what materials I can use together to make the art what I want it to be. I have had to discard a few pieces due to the materials not mixing or adhering to the canvas.
We’d love to hear more about your artwork.
I am a small internet-based business. I sell art on my website idiosyncraticart.com. My specialty is contemporary abstract art. I use a unique technique when I create each canvas. The mediums I use are oil, acrylic, and resin. My art contains different minerals in each piece such as: 24K gold, turquoise, and sterling silver. Each canvas is individual and is a piece of jewelry for your wall.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love the city and the opportunities it provides. I currently have pieces of my art in the Frisco Fine Art gallery. The way that the city is growing is phenomenal.
