Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Simmons.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing my own hair at a young age. I believe I was in middle school. I never had anyone to sit down and teach me, I just begin to do it on my own. As time progressed and I begin to go from middle to high school, many of my classmates and friends begin to inquire about me doing their hair and teaching them how to do the hairstyles that I was wearing. By the time I graduated, I was doing almost all of my classmate’s hair, family and friends and several others. God truly blessed me with a gift to do hair.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe that anything great does not come easy. So, with that being said, I can’t say that it has not always been a smooth road, but it has been a rewarding road. I have had the opportunity to learn so many different things through trial and era. Even when I faced the hard times, what allowed me to get where I am now is because I never gave up. I trusted in the god-given ability that the Lord afforded me to have and knew that if it came from God no matter how difficult it may have gotten, I was going to make it.
Please tell us about Tiara’s Creative D’signZ.
I begin my salon in 2008 under the name of Tiara’s Beauty Salon in Duncanville, TX. I have now relocated after 10 years in one location to my new location in Desoto, TX. I specialize in healthy hair care, sew-ins, natural hairstyles, and hair fusions.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would not do anything differently, because even though I endured struggle here or there, everything that I have gone through and embraced have taught me and has given me insight to becoming the individual I am today. If I had not experienced the highs and the lows or the moment that everyone walked out on me and I had to handle my shop rent and my home rent, or the times that the workers we unable to pay their booth fees, I wouldn’t know how to properly balance money. If I did not have to deal with individuals that were rude because my salon housed predominately African American individuals, I would know how to deal with individuals that had problems with racism. So, there is nothing that I would change. Every struggle that I embraced, turned out to be a blessing in the end.
