Today we’d like to introduce you to David Cheney.
David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My intense passion for photography developed while studying Fine Arts at Texas A&M University – Commerce during the mid to late 90’s. I furthered my studies and interest while I studied abroad at the University of London – London, England. In 1999, I earned my Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree with a triple major in Photography, Painting, and Ceramic Sculpture.
As a husband to my wonderful wife Jenny, and as the proudest father to the most amazing son Aiden, I am inspired while photographing people in love. Seeing people through the process of a wedding and the days leading up to it, reminds me often of how blessed I truly am.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Teaching art and photography while building my business presented its own set of challenges, and actually became very unhealthy at one point. I had so much drive, and never turned the photography work away, it stacked up, and something had to give. For five years I gave up sleep and family time. In 2014, I realized I had to stop spreading myself so thin, and left teaching for good. I haven’t looked back, the company is thriving, I have lots of time with my family that I love so much, and I take great care of my clients! I love my career and the people I get work with…
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the David Cheney Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
As a full-time wedding and lifestyle portrait photographer, I focus on capturing uniquely artistic images that maintain a firm foundation of class and elegance. Shooting and editing with only the best equipment and software available, allows me to produce exceptionally high-quality images for my clients and their families. In addition to the photographic process, I produce very high-quality custom photographic prints, professional products, and offer an amazing line of custom framing.
My clients’ images are uniquely printed/produced on an exten- sive variety of materials such as Luster, Metallic, and Fine Art papers, Canvas Gallery Wraps, and Stainless Steel Standouts, just to name a few. Along with my unique product offerings and beautiful custom framing, I create gorgeous custom Flush Mount Books that are truly an emotional tribute to one’s biggest day. Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck, just hard work and perseverance. I think it is so important to not only know your craft, but the business sense is incredibly important, and is often the part that costs a great photographer their business.
