Meet Nina Tupusheva of Beauty Eternal in Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Tupusheva.

Nina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have had a passion for Aesthetics & Medicine since my early childhood. When I was three, my father bought me a toy doctor’s set which I loved. Unfortunately, my real mother died in a car accident when I was one year old and my father remarried three months after her death. My story with my “new family” significantly affected my life. It was a story which reminds me of the “Cinderella” fairytale. Cinderella’s relationship with her stepmother resembles my relationship with my stepmother (who I was made to believe to be my real mother). I couldn’t understand why I was being treated differently from my other siblings. I was brought up to believe that my self-worth was directly tied to how well I could do my chores. Once I approached the mother of a girl and said, “Why do you love her? She can’t do chores the same way I do. I can do it better.” I thought that you could only be loved when you did something with quality, and you didn’t deserve love when you didn’t work. When I was 12 years old I was cleaning the house when I found my real parents’ marriage certificate of marriage. That day I found out the truth about my stepmother. This answered my question about why I was treated so differently from my siblings, but it also raised so many other questions.

In school, my favorite subjects were Biology & Chemistry. I was a member of the Olympiads and won at the city and the republic levels. During the Soviet Union time and a while after it fell apart, Medical Universities were free. I passed my exams and was enrolled in the Medical University with a scholarship! When I came home with this great news, my stepmother made a scene and said, ”Are you going to sit on my shoulders for the next seven years studying and not working? Go find something short-term and get to work.” My heart was broken when my father timidly agreed. The next best thing was nursing, so I applied to the school of nursing and because I had such good grades, I was also awarded a scholarship. I’ve also received my Massage Therapist certification and later my Cosmetology certificate. Those were really tough years of my life, but I’m thankful I was able to still believe in myself enough to persevere through such adversity.

With that being said, I have been really blessed to meet amazing people along the way. Those people are my teachers, my neighbors, and my colleagues. In medicine, it is important that a professional has a passion for their profession and I do everything in my power to surround myself with the best of the best.

I am very proud of my accomplishments. I have Baccalaureate and a Masters Degree in Nursing, a number of Medical and Aesthetics certifications and work experience in Clinical Emergency, Dermatology, and Plastic Surgery. And I hope to keep adding to that list!

I’m a mother of four (Adelle, Sophia, Arthur, Tim) and wife to an amazing man who supports all my endeavors.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As you may know, the Soviet Union was mostly atheistic. So, religion only came when the Soviet Union fell apart. That was when my relatives baptized me Christian. Religion in post-Soviet time didn’t develop very rapidly so I really came to believe much later in life. There were many challenges and obstacles in my life, and I was coping with them with the feeling of suffering and the feeling that life is unfair to me. Today, I feel very different. Obstacles and challenges are given to us by God so that we can become better and reach our dreams and wishes. Those who haven’t suffered in their life may not have the same level of understanding and attitude as other people. Having a good attitude towards others and each living creature is the key to our lives. Now, I’m more forgiving. I believe that life is given so we may enjoy it and be happy. By following certain principles in our life, we can minimize suffering by not bringing intentional harm to other people. If we understand that each person has his own vision of things, and by accepting that we are in the loving hands of God, we can choose what dreams we have and that we will be guided by Him. Another principle I’ve come to understand is that what we believe will happen for us. If we say, “I’m beautiful.” and surround ourselves with good people and positive situations, good things will start to happen. We have to be systematic and persistent in this way to live a life that is fruitful.

Beauty Eternal – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I co-own a business Beauty Eternal/Beaute Eternelle which I like to call an “Aesthetics Office”. Here we don’t do medicine as it is: “Practicing medicine” means the diagnosis, treatment, or offer to treat a mental or physical disease or disorder or a physical deformity or injury by any system or method, or the attempt to effect cures of those conditions. We are an MSO acting under Physicians and performing Esthetician / Aesthetics, Management, Marketing & Support Services.

I’m really happy to have a job, but it’s not really work. It’s a hobby and a passion of my life. Within our office, we have amazing Physicians: Dr. Aleksandra Vidacic and Dr. Gary Albertson. I am honored to work with them.
Beyond the office, we collaborate with a number of Plastic Surgeons by referring clients to their practice because the powers of non-invasive aesthetics are limited.

I believe that all people are beautiful. I just help them emphasize their beauty. Sometimes in our everyday duties of being a mom, dad, employee, friend, and/or volunteer, we forget about devoting time to ourselves. Life is too short and I want to help people feel good about themselves so they can enjoy life to its fullest.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It was in Eastern Hemisphere. God saved two lives via my hands in out-of-clinic situations.
These are situations when you don’t have basic instruments, emergency equipment, and most important colleagues.

One evening, I was on the beach with my family, and people started to call for help. Their friend got lost in the dark lake water and was drowning. Luckily, they were able to find her and remove her from water and I performed CPR and was able to save her life. In another case, I was on a business trip walking down the street and I saw some young people carrying their friend who was in a drug coma. Again, I can’t recall exactly what happened, but my medical training kicked in and I was able to help them out. When I think about these memories, I feel inspired and feel true value in my life.

Even though I had a very difficult upbringing, I feel like I took away some valuable lessons from that time. I learned that we should all have understanding and compassion for others, and we should use encouraging words to support each other. I also learned to follow my dreams/passion and not let others negativity keep me from accomplishing my goals. I am a lifelong long learner and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.
