Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanis Hussey.
Hanis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born and raised in Singapore. In 1983 -Hanis Hussey became an International Haute Couture runway Model that graced the catwalks of Paris, Milan & Tokyo working with some of the world’s first class fashion Designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Balmain, Ungaro, Christian Dior, Valentino, Gianni Versace and many more.
1988 – Hanis returned to Singapore to start her own Modelling Agency – providing International Male & Female Models available for Fashion Shows, Photos and Tv Commercials. Also, a Grooming Academy offering classes for Women of all ages aspiring to become Models. She also got married to Steve Hussey, An American living and working in Singapore and had three kids.
In 1997, Hanis retired from modeling fulltime and sold her Modelling Agency to focus on raising her 3 kids but still works part time as
-Fashion Show Producer for leading brands in Singapore & several prestigious women’s group.
-Fashion Consultant & Buyer in Singapore, Dubai & Kuala Lumpur.
Lastly, I was chosen as a model to be photographed on the cover of TIME Magazine in 1997.
2016- Hanis and her husband moved to Trophy Club, Texas and here she continued working for herself as an Image & Grooming Consultant, Fashion Stylist & a Fashion Show Producer.
She volunteers her time for a prestigious Southlake Women’s Club as their 1st VP of Program since 2017. She had personally trained and groomed Members of SWC and had produced three Spring Fashion Shows. Hanis is also a Board member of a Women’s & Children Shelter, I CAN STILL SHINE. 2018- Hanis joins J.Hilburn Custom Menswear as an Independent Personal Stylist.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Moving directly from Singapore to Texas was a big culture shock. I have never lived in the US but visits once -twice a year. My husband, An American moved to Singapore 30 years ago and all our three kids were born in Singapore. Making friends when I first arrive here was a challenge. I joined several women organizations and started volunteering my time to meet new friends.
The change of weather, experiencing Winter was a challenge for an Island girl! I had to buy a whole set of new clothing don’t enjoy the cold. Then when Summer came, I loved it and played so much golf one summer until it got unbearable with 104 degree weather. Now, I have got used to the weather and I have more friends than I can imagine three years ago. I love living in the US. Wished we had moved here ten years ago!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up in Singapore At 16, I left Singapore to pursue my dream career as a Fashion Model in Paris, France. I was one of the fortunate girls that were the right place at the right time. Two days after I arrived in Paris, I was selected amongst 100 other Models to be one of Yves Saint Laurent House models. I spent 10 years in Paris learning and working in fashion.
