Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Jeff Garrett, a Tennessee native, began his career at age 18 at a country auction in Gadsden, Alabama and now conducts some of the finest estate auctions in the Southern U.S. Jeff has extensive knowledge in the antique field and is an expert in valuations and the liquidation process of fine estates. During the past 40 years, Jeff has facilitated the liquidation of over 30 million dollars worth of antiques and fine art and established a reputation for complete honesty, integrity and the highest professional standards, all with extra measure of personalized service.

Son of Jeff and Vicki Garrett, Justin is a 3rd generation auctioneer. Justin grew up working auctions as a child, doing everything from packing glass to deliveries to working as a “ring man” for his father Jeff. Justin attained his auctioneer’s license in 2003 and has been calling auctions ever since. Justin has extensive knowledge of the estate liquidation process, as well as evaluating and assessing an estate and developing a plan for maximum exposure and results. Justin specializes in 18th – 19th century European furniture and decorative arts.

Julie Garrett VanDolen, and husband, Matthew VanDolen, run the day-to-day operations of the auction gallery, serving as client liaisons. Julie also grew up on the auction block, banging the gavel for her father at an early age. Today she and Matthew meet with potential consignors, assess estates, and schedule all facets of an auction. Matthew handles the technology and back-end of internet platforms to reach a global audience. Skilled in the estimating and cataloging of items, the duo works in tandem to organize a top-notch sale and bring consignors the highest dollars.

Please tell us about your business.
J. Garrett is known as the most flexible auction company in the DFW area. Our small, family-owned, friendly style allows potential consignors to talk through specific needs. We can take pieces on consignment or even purchase entire estates outright. We are called upon in times of great need– often very serious circumstances lead to the need or desire to auction very personal items. It can be a very emotional process and we understand the nature of the decisions that come along with those situations. Many of our best customers have become close friends. Additionally, we have been in this business for over 40 years. Auctions are a production; experience is a must.
