Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Wilkins.
Jamie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an occupational therapist, wife, and mom of three little ones. My family and I have lived in the north DFW area for eight years now. I currently run a private therapy practice (E.X.P.L.O.R.E Therapy Services) and realized that I wanted to share more of the activities that I do with my pediatric clients and the activities that I do at home with my children. My oldest child would always ask to play “mommy homeschool” and follow the schedule of his preschool teacher. It got to the point where I had to plan for these days and I would find it frustrating if I didn’t have one of the items to complete an activity (he loved science the most). That’s how the idea for the GLAD (Guided Learning Activity Development) box was born. I wanted to provide activities that parents or caregivers intentionally did with their child and package everything they may need into one box. I wanted it to be easy (and fun)! I provide an activity card that helps guide the family through the activities included in the box.
Has it been a smooth road?
I quickly realized that I needed some extra help. I recruited my mom, a retired elementary school teacher, to help me with refining my activities and editing my content. It has been a blessing to be able to work collaboratively with her! My sister is also a speech therapist that adds value to each box. People love that they get three specialties in one box!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I utilize my occupational therapy background and experience of a mom of three to create each box. Each month, I release a new theme to keep children engaged in their learning and development. Each box contains a fine motor, gross motor, handwriting, and reading development activity. Families may purchase an individual box or choose a subscription plan.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas/Fort Worth is a great location for small businesses! I have met so many small business owners that are so eager to help each other and are generous with sharing their knowledge and expertise. I am so grateful!
