Thanks for sharing your story with us Nathan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a small town in South Texas. From as far back as I can remember, I knew I wanted to become a physician. I attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Once in medical school, I gravitated to women’s health particularly enjoying gynecologic surgery and obstetrics. I completed my internship and residency in Phoenix, Arizona. Since completing residency, I have had the privilege to provide care for women of all ages. For the past several years, I have been in solo practice working diligently to provide solid, individualized care in my boutique office setting. I currently have three fields in which I focus my time and efforts…bioidentical hormone replacement, general obstetrics and gynecology, and most recently aesthetic gynecology. I furthered my training by becoming a fellow in aesthetic vaginal surgery from the Alinsod Institute for Aesthetic Vulvovaginal Surgery. I have really enjoyed aesthetic surgery for there has been a growing interest and patient demand for these services for which few gynecologist practice.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was fortunate enough to step into an existing practice and take over. This was hugely beneficial and would be a large obstacle to overcome if starting out from scratch. That being said, overhead continues to increase while insurance reimbursement continues to decrease thereby causing financial struggles especially in the beginning. Nowadays, I am constantly having to decide where to spend money and how much to spend to reach a broader patient population and promote my practices.
