I am a 20 plus year career woman in Dallas, Texas who took a break from my day job in the commercial interior design world to stay at home with my twin boys when they were young. During this time, I focused on philanthropic endeavors and volunteerism by serving on several civic and non-profit organizations.
About six years ago I found myself at a stage of motherhood where I was anticipating my sons’ upcoming high school graduation, their departure for college and the enviable question, “so what do I do now?” I began looking for an outlet for my extra time and creativity and was particularly interested in writing which has always been a passion of mine.
I was very excited when I was asked to join the Real Posh Mom Lifestyle Blog Team and to share my own experiences and personal viewpoints as a mother, wife, and career woman. Since joining the blog I have featured and reviewed local theater, restaurants and happenings. I have also contributed features about my own personal experiences being a mother and also fashion trends, tips and products for women, and personal travel experiences. I have loved every minute of it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest issues I have had is making the time to devote to writing for the blog. I’m still a wife and a mother and even though the boys are in college I find myself spending time devoted to helping them maneuver life. I am also the primary caretaker for my elderly mother who came to live with us full time about five years ago. There’s always something to draw me away from my computer and distract me from writing!
The social media industry is constantly changing so it’s a struggle sometimes to find content that resonates with my readers. There is a lot of competition out there among bloggers for our target audience. The challenge has been to continually seek ways to capture our readers’ interest and make them want to read more. Our goal is to share experiences and hope that the readers appreciate our unique style and point of view. It’s also difficult at times to constantly stay fresh and current with the latest trends in food, style, and travel.
This is a relationship-based industry, so networking with PR firms and organizations is a key component to success and is not always easy to keep up with the ever changing contacts there.

Real Posh Mom was created by Founder and Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Buxton several years ago when her children were small to help busy women stay on top of the latest trends in food, style, travel, and motherhood. What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Do you mean besides being super proud of my career as a mother and having raised two sons who will be graduating from college this May (in four years no less) and being great human beings? Seriously though, I’d have to say that I’m very proud to have ventured into a field that I had no real experience in at a stage in my life that most people are thinking about retiring NOT switching careers!
I pulled myself out of my comfort zone when I joined the RPM Team and have put my thoughts and opinions out into the world without worrying about being judged or criticized. The positive feedback that I’ve gotten from our readers and other bloggers have been extremely rewarding. It encourages me to continue writing and sharing my viewpoint of being a Real Posh Mom!
