Meet Rebecca Adler of Rebecca Dale Photography in Victory Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Adler.

Rebecca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a born and raised New Yorker and started my photography business there in 2012. At that time, I was working at a cubicle job and didn’t know what my career purpose was. I just was not passionate about working full time for that company. I wanted to be my own boss and pursue an artistic career. One day I met a professional photographer. She lent me her camera one day to help her shoot and I instantly knew that is what I wanted to do with my life. From there, I just started taking photos of everything and enrolled myself in the online program The New York Institute of Photography.

One of my colleagues was a fashion blogger and I began working with her to shoot street style looks. From there, she introduced me to more fashion girls and I ended up being a fashion blogger photographer in New York. I was able to attend Fashion Week and shoot street style and runway shows. I also freelanced for Racked, photographing boutiques and clothing around the city. I eventually left my desk job and became a freelance photographer.

I joined my now husband in Fort Worth in 2014. After moving here, I knew that I had to be open to different types of photography, not just fashion. I began specializing in food and event photography in Fort Worth as well as weddings and portraits. I then moved to Dallas in 2018, where I started to search for new clients. I began to work as a content creator for Harwood International. I photograph many restaurants around the city. I also started working at NIX creative, shooting at retail shopping destinations.

One of my main passions is travel photography. It isn’t very easy to monetize that (unless you become an influencer) so I do it as an artistic outlet. One day I hope to travel to all my bucket list destinations and to create a gallery of my work maybe. I am also starting to sell prints on my website. I am always flattered when people want to display my work in their homes.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a freelance photographer is incredibly rewarding but it also, of course, has its challenges. In New York it was challenging to keep up with the constant fast pace, moving to a new city after that created very new challenges. I had to restart my business without knowing anyone. New York is also very different than Texas, so I had to adapt to a new culture and market. I am always still trying to navigate this great new city. There are a lot of opportunities here, but it can also be difficult to stand out.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Rebecca Dale Photography is a unique mix of food, lifestyle, travel, portraits, and events. I have experience in many different areas of photography, so this helps broaden my business. My biggest strength is that I strive to understand my clients and their visions. If you look at my portfolio, I have work that is very specific to each client and I don’t just have one singular style. I do like to take risks in my work as well and not stick to just the same kind of style all the time. I am proud of my success and that I have been able to work with such unique companies.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Photography right now is incredibly saturated, but this is also probably the peak of this industry. People want constant content for social media, which is why we are in such high demand. I am not sure where things are headed in the future, but I hope that people will still appreciate quality work. I do think that in the future, everyone will be using just their phones and DSLR’s might become pretty much obsolete, much like the film (although the film has made a comeback recently). I see a rise in more moveable GIFs like images and/or videos. We might even have all 3D images in the future; only time will tell.
