Today we’d like to introduce you to Andres Gutierrez.
Andres, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always been a creative person, always drawing in a sketchbook or doing digital art in photoshop. It wasn’t until I received a Canon PowerShot for my birthday that I gained an interest in photography. I took it everywhere with me always trying to capture things I saw around Fort Worth that I thought would make for a good photo. A year later, in 2017, a trip out of town really sparked my love for photography and I knew I wanted to keep creating. I reached a point where I felt like street photography wasn’t the best for me because I wanted more control of the scene.
I upgraded to a new canon body and moved on from street photography to focusing mostly on creative portraits after I have seen multiple artists and photographers create beautiful photos on Instagram. I started experimenting with location portraiture, colorful scenes and making my images vibrant to really catch your eye.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Photography is more than just pointing a camera and taking a picture. It takes countless of hours researching and really understanding every variable when it comes to taking a photo. It’s a never-ending process of learning something new which I felt was overwhelming. But each photo I take is a marker of each step I am taking to become a better photographer.
Staying inspired also becomes difficult when I feel like I am not making any progress in mastering my craft but looking back at my older stuff motivates me along with the support I receive from my peers and others from the community. I have learned to just keep shooting no matter what because every failure becomes a learning experience that cannot be taught.
