Meet Lardi B

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lardi B.

Lardi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, My real name is Jenn Whitlock and I have been singing since I was four years old. My father was in a band for 20 years, and watching him have practices in our garage growing up really made me passionate about music. I wrote and released my first pop/soul EP in 2016. In 2018 is when Lardi B was created. I wrote my first parody “Bodak Jello” from Cardi B’s- Bodak Yellow single, and the response was insane! It got 7M views within a few days after releasing the video. I’m a bigger girl and I thought this was a good opportunity to preach that self love and body positivity IS OKAY! After that, I released a few more that went viral as well, including “They Like That Im Fat,” which reached 100M views on Facebook, received recognition from Cardi B, Trina, and landed me an article with Billboard. So now that I have this platform, I can push my original music and still do the parodies if I choose to.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it’s been pretty smooth. I have had a few hiccups as far as management. But that’s just how the industry works. You quickly learn who you can trust and who is genuinely on your team because they want to see you succeed.

We’d love to hear more about your music.
I have a couple of proud moments. First, the billboard article was a huge milestone. I also got the opportunity to Headline a crowd of 52,000 people at Milwaukee PRIDE, and I threw my very own Festival called Lardiland this year!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was big into sports and music. I played, Volleyball, Softball, I was a gymnast, a cheerleader, on a hip hop dance team, and the list goes on. I got a full ride scholarship to play Softball in Collage at TVCC I’m Athens TX. After a year of playing, I decided it wasn’t for me and started taking music more seriously.
