Today we’d like to introduce you to Gail McGee.
Gail, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2018, I lost one of my best friends, Billie McBeth and my other best friend, Verniece Strickland, was diagnosed with cancer. She is cancer free now. I also lost my sister, Dwana Van in 2008, my lifetime best friend/cousin, Diedra Ausborne in 2009 and my grandmother, Archie McGee Phelps in 2014, all of this made me take a long look at my life. Yes, I have a good job, yes I have a home but what do I actually have to leave to my sons and my grandkids. I looked into other options but owning a furniture store had always been a dream of mine. In January of 2019, I was BLESSSED to be able to turn that dream into a reality. JESUS started opening doors that a startup company isn’t usually offered. I Thank you, JESUS!! It’s because of HIM that Gye Nyame Furniture & Accents started as an online store in May 2019. We are now e-commerce and a brick and mortar furniture store.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, It has been challenging and rewarding at the same time. The biggest struggle was finding the right people to partner with. It’s a lot of work establishing a company. It takes extraordinary commitment and sacrifice to build a company from the ground. My Mother, Lois McGee has been my rock!! My Mom and my sisters, Michelle Baker Sangster and Deborah Jeffery words of encouragement and advice play through my mind daily and keeps me focused through the hard days.

Gye Nyame Furniture and Accents was established in 2019, offering a variety of styles of furniture to accommodate everyone’s taste. Gye Nyame Furniture recognizes everyone wants beautiful furniture. Unfortunately, some people aren’t able to obtain financing. Therefore, we’ve teamed with a different type of lenders to accommodate all lifestyles to ensure you have the furniture of your dreams. We also offer extended warranties. Not only do we carry beautiful and quality furniture, but we also carry all types of accents, electronics and bath and showerware. Our goal is to provide economic stability to employees in our communities while selling quality furniture at reasonable prices to customers of Gye Nyame Furniture & Accents. Gye Nyame Furniture & Accents is owned by two sisters, Gail McGee and Michelle Baker Sangster.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are planning to open more stores throughout Texas and in Atlanta, GA.
