Today we’d like to introduce you to Anu Dhakal.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am originally from Nepal. Growing up, I’ve always been gravitated towards beauty and everything related to the beauty industry. During my adolescence, I took part in many beauty pageants and later won the title of miss teen in my hometown in Nepal. Naturally, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in this field.
When the time came, I attended beauty school and got my certification to fulfill my passion. Throughout my career, I worked at salons as a beautician and perfected my skills in eyebrow threading and eyelash extensions.
After working years at a salon in the DFW and after getting married to my partner in crime, I was blessed with my daughter, Cirene. Being the best mother to my newborn baby became my new passion. I put my own ambitions on hold to give her the attention and love she deserved. For six years, I decided to be a stay-at-home and it wasn’t until my daughter started school and I had more time for myself that I decided to go back and pursue my passion in the beauty industry.
The thought of me going back to work was overwhelming. To go back into the work environment, having co-workers, and working for a boss telling me what to do wasn’t something I was looking forward to. After discussing my options, I decided to start something small on my own. I decided that I’ll start eyebrow threading from my garage and I didn’t know if it would work out or if people would trust me, but I had hope for something bigger.
A year later, I have a full running salon from the comfort of my own home. We offer many services from eyebrow threading to facials. I have the best customers who are so loyal and supportive. Some days are still better than others, but I am so thankful to be able to make my own hours and work for myself.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course! Anything you do will have challenges. I have to work harder than everyone else because I don’t have a set amount of money I earn every month. Some months are better than others and I have to keep up with my advertisements and communication with my clients. But I see everything as an opportunity to learn rather than an obstacle and that’s what keeps me going.
Please tell us about Cirenity Spa & Beauty.
I am the founder and beautician at Cirenity Spa & Beauty. I Offer Eyebrow threading/tinting, eyelash extensions, facials and make up/hair services. Specializing in all things beauty.
As a brand, I am very proud of where I am today even though my business is still in its first year. I take pride in my authenticity and customer satisfaction guarantee. I do what I do because it’s my passion and I love making women feel beautiful and confident in themselves. When you come to my studio, you aren’t coming to a generic beauty salon setting. It’s a one on one private session by appointment only and my clients absolutely love and appreciate the privacy! I think that’s what sets me apart from everyone else.
Who have you been inspired by?
Being from a third world country like Nepal where male domination is a big factor. I always looked up to my mom who never let that come in her way. She never went to school because girls were looked upon as other’s property and never given basic rights but my mom sent me and my three sisters to private school even though the society called her names for doing so. She took care of my dad’s business all on her own when my dad went overseas to make extra income for our family. I saw her juggle it all her own. Five kids and a hotel business just to make sure we get every right we deserve and I won’t let those sacrifices go to waste. I want to make her proud someday.
