Meet Alison Garner of Farmers Insurance Group in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Garner.

Alison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a lifelong resident of Texas and I’ve been with Farmers Insurance for 35 years. I started at a Farmers Insurance Agency while I was a Senior in High School in Lubbock, Texas. After high school, I continued working in the Agency while earning a degree in Financial Planning at Texas Tech. I moved to the Dallas area in 1993 and continued to work in a Farmers Agency. Later I moved into a Farmers District Office position where we hired and trained new agents. Finally, I jumped the cliff and started my own Agency in 2005.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Overall, I’ve been extremely blessed and the road has been fairly smooth. I connected with a group of investors early on in my business who needed insurance on multiple rental properties. That really helped my sales in the first couple of years. Also, being involved in Business Networking Groups has been a great success. Helping others to grow their business has come back to me tenfold.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Throughout my tenure with Farmers, I have considered myself to be in a teaching position- whether that was teaching clients about coverages and options or teaching new agents about the industry. At my Agency, we focus on providing outstanding customer service and ensuring each client is educated on the coverage options to suit their specific needs. My Agency makes this process straightforward and personalized to help you select the most comprehensive, cost-effective solution. Since starting my Agency, I have been recognized as Best Insurance Agent in D Magazine 5 times and earned the Five Star Award for Top Auto/Home Insurance Professional in Texas Monthly multiple times. I have also earned the Achievement Clubs status through Farmers for Topper Club and Championship. I am very proud of these recognitions and achievements.

What were you like growing up?
I was the youngest child in my family and the only girl with three older brothers. Everyone tells me I’m spoiled, but I prefer to think of it as blessed! My mom tells me I was really good at always getting my way and that I seemed to have a ‘teacher’ in me from early on. I loved school, reading and being teacher’s pet. I particularly enjoyed singing in the choir and the office education programs and classes.
