Meet Darren M. Palmer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren M. Palmer.

Darren, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today
I began my journey as a speaker a few years ago. I envisioned myself speaking to thousands, conducting workshops, traveling, impacting other people’s lives, and having control over my schedule. At the time, I was working in a warehouse, only seeing my kids for a short period of time each day. My wife worked an opposite shift, so we became like two ships passing in the night.

I worked all day, and afterward, I’d have enough time to get home, eat dinner, help kids with homework, and go to bed. Life was an endless cycle of waking up, working, sleeping and doing it all over again the next day. I remember wanting more. I wanted to spend more time with my family and make myself available for my children’s events.

I attended a conference I couldn’t afford. I had paid in advance, but when it was time for the conference, and all my bills were paid, I had just enough money for gas. I arranged to stay with someone because I wasn’t able to rent a hotel room and I packed sandwiches instead of eating out. One of the speakers at this conference, and someone I consider to be a mentor, expressed the importance of writing a book. Of course, I learned much more at the conference than just ‘write a book’, but those words stuck! That was it! I’d write a book.

So as soon as I got home, I announced to my family that I was going to write a book. I worked tirelessly day in and day out, figuring out how to get published. This was after I created the content for my book. Then I took a picture of my brother and I had taken at the local park to use for the cover. Looking back, I realize it wasn’t the best quality, but when I held that book in my hands, my life changed.

I was officially an author. Little did I know what would happen next. After my book was released, I had several people ask me how they could write a book. I spent hours offering advice, telling people how to get started and what the process looked like.

After so many people asked, I decided I’d create a course to position others to become authors. The course sold, but these same individuals that had purchased it weren’t getting their books published. I went back to the drawing board to figure out what was missing. Accountability. I knew I wanted others to experience what I did when I became an author, so I created Self Publish -N- 30 Days, a self-publishing company that’s a one stop shop for all self-publishing needs.

The people I have worked with trusted the process and got it done! I had no idea that one small design would transform into the #1 Self-Publishing Company in the world. Now, I’ve built a team to help people all over the world write their books to leverage their careers into profitable speaking and coaching businesses, living out their dreams.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from a smooth road, but there have been plenty of opportunities for growth with every obstacle that comes my way. Just like most business owners, I’ve had to overcome several things throughout the years. I’ve encountered struggles with funding, building a team, transitioning from a technician to a business owner, creating a brand and learning my target demographic. I had to bootstrap from day one. I wasn’t given any loans or advice from other start-up companies. I used every bit of what I had in savings and all the resources available to me to build my business from ground zero.

Please tell us about your work.
Self Publish -N- 30 Days was crafted to debunk the myth that it takes years to write a book. I’m honored to be the Chief Book Officer of Self Publish -N- 30 Days plus a 7X author, including my first release, Extraordinary Over Ordinary, that helps motivate and inspire people to stop living an average life. I also authored Money-Making Book Secrets to give tips and tools for first-time authors.

Another part of my role with the company is being the host of multiple podcasts: Self Publish -N- 30 Days Podcast, The Power of Story Podcast & award-winning, Author Spotlight where I go behind the scenes with Bestselling Authors from around the globe.

Seeing a need in the industry, my team and I created This Is The Year For Your New Book Conference to assist authors and aspiring authors in the areas of writing, marketing, and publishing. Additionally, we gave birth to the Bestselling Authors Business Mastermind, where we partner with authors and instruct them to utilize the B2 Method (Book to Business) to leverage their books in their field of expertise.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality that I feel is most important to my success is servant leadership. I am humbled and honored to enrich the lives of others and add value to my team and clients.
