Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Miller.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jonny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passion for making images started at a young age with my mother’s Nikon N2000. I taught myself until college, where I received a BFA in photography with a minor in art history and film production. During that time, I worked for the publications department and the local paper, shooting everything from sports and banquets to concerts, weddings, and even the tragic Joplin, MO tornado for which my photos received national recognition for the first time. I also received the Missouri Broadcast Association’s award for the best commercial, being the first student project from my school to be aired on TV by a local business. From there, I assisted very talented photographers in Saint Louis before moving to Dallas as an assistant and camera operator for three more years before starting Jonny BadGood Productions. Today, my clients range from small business owners to fortune 500 companies. I owe everything to hard work, dedication, and the support of my family, friends and peers. In the last two years, our business has grown exponentially with the help of my Executive Producer Chris Whitten and the talented crew in Dallas.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always struggles when starting and running a business, It’s a leap of faith. When I left my full-time position at the end of 2015, I had burned through all my savings pretty quickly. At the beginning of 2016, I had $30 in my pocket and a couple of cameras. I knew I could make it work if I stuck with it and got up every day and hustled for what I wanted. It was a tough go, and without the support of my friends and family, I would not have made it through that time. Eventually, that hard work paid off. My struggle now is keeping up with the growth of the business, and finding new ways of providing the best service to my clients.
Jonny BadGood Productions, LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are creative problem solvers. The marketing and advertising business is all about solving problems, and there is always a solution. We are a full turn-key production company and manage every part of the process. From conception to production and implementation, our goal is to make our client’s life easy and stress-free. We create engaging, authentic, and cost-efficient content that clients will be proud to share with all audiences. Our ability to manage and deliver both still photography and video production at the same time add even more value, all while saving time, resources, and money. Our clients are like family, and we treat them as such by creating partnerships that are built on trust and backed by results. After understanding our client’s objectives and needs, we can bring their ideas to life and find the best solutions for the project, budget and brand.
We have many things to be proud of, but I think what stands out for me is the work we did with The Toyota sponsored Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Filming in South Korea was a huge challenge, but what is important to me was telling the stories of the Paralympic Athletes. Although they won’t admit it, every one of their stories is extraordinary and inspiring. Their talent, passion and ability to push through adversity to achieve remarkable things are stories worth telling. To be apart of sharing their journey and giving them the recognition they deserve is a true honor, and I am proud of that.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Gosh, I feel like every job I do is my proudest moment. I strive for every photo or video I make to be better than the last, and the challenges keep getting harder and harder, and we keep producing and thriving under pressure. My first proudest moment was my first big job with American Airlines. The job was a big success but the moment I knew I had “made it” was at dinner after the first night. I’ve been to so many fancy dinner and drinks after shoots, but they were all hosted by my bosses or clients. This was the first time that we got to have a great time, and I was the host. To be able to thank my team for a job well done and celebrate our accomplishments. That was a truly proud moment.
