Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Henderson.
Dominique J. Henderson, Sr. began serving the financial industry in 1998. Ever since elementary school, he knew he had a mission to help people “win with their money”.
A product of a military family, he spent his teenage years all over the world including West Germany and Hawaii which served him well in accepting all people from diverse backgrounds. After high school, he attended Prairie View A&M University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. He earned his Master’s in Securities Analysis and Portfolio Management from Creighton University in 2015 and his Certified Financial Planner™ designation in 2016.
Professionally, Dominique has spent over two decades in financial services building a diverse skill set in strategy, data analysis, investment research, portfolio management, and financial planning. Prior to founding his registered investment advisory firm, DJH Capital Management in 2016, he spent years in institutional fixed-income trading circles, real estate, and the back office of one of Dallas’ premier hedge fund managers.
Now as his own boss, Dominique uses his expertise to build financial plans and investment portfolios that help his clients make the “bigger, better” decision with their money while also educating and coaching the next generation of financial professionals to serve the growing group of individuals seeking financial advice.
Dominique’s advice has been featured on various media platforms such as US News & World Report, Yahoo, GoBankingRates.com, and Investopedia’s Advisor Insights. He also hosts a weekly video broadcast on YouTube dedicated to helping both consumers and providers of financial services have better conversations around money.
Dominique considers it a privilege to serve individuals and help them reach their goals and dreams. He proudly admits that: “Being blessed with not only the “know-how” but the energy to serve clients, build a business, and create a legacy for my family is more than I can ever have asked for or dreamed.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely NOT (LOL).
I work in one of the most regulated industries and so that has its challenges from navigating legislation and rules to the collateral damage of news headlines.
Getting calls from clients about their livelihood changes, falling portfolios and everything in between often makes me feel like a counselor or psychologist instead of a financial advisor.
But this is all part of the game. I would say “enjoying the process” or at least embracing it, has helped to combat the mental battles that come from grinding through these obstacles.
Please tell us what you do.
I have two businesses…
The first is a wealth management firm that helps individuals make the bigger better decision with their money. I often like to say that financial planning is less about the math and more about integrated advice on how to make your money do what gives you the most bang out of life.
The second business is essentially consulting. I’m leveraging social media and video to reach the next generation of financial advisors to make more impact with the families they choose to work with. It’s my contribution to the industry.
With me, life is all about leaving impact from the influence you have. As I build my legacy this will what I will be most proud of…it’s too early for that now…I’ve got a lot more work to do!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Tough question, but the short answer is nothing.
I believe your path is your path. Meaning that although mistakes are made, those mistakes can always be gleaned from or learned from.
I don’t think I would have made any different choices from the MACRO ones that count: the God I serve, the woman I married or the profession I’ve spent two decades learning.
All the other MICRO decisions are just opportunities to learn.
