Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Mahadi.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Iran into a prominent government family. My family and I were forced to flee Iran during the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and lived as refugees in Europe until being allowed to immigrate to America and eventually to a small town in Texas. In the blink of an eye, my life completely shifted from one of stability to one of uncertainty. I was suddenly surrounded by unfamiliar faces in foreign surroundings all while not knowing the language. It was a seemingly small gesture from a classmate that changed my life forever. He invited me to play basketball in a local church league and through that encounter, I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior. This decision heavily influenced my life as I continued my education at Baylor University and would ultimately serve as the basis for opening my own business Joshua Expeditions. We are a non-profit Christian travel organization that offers a wide variety of experiences from education to mission trips, and we exist for the purpose of assisting Christian organizations to inspire purpose, develop leaders, and share Christ through travel. We are celebrating our 20th year in 2018 and are so thankful for the opportunities the Lord has blessed us with!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
During our first few years of operations, we were limited on finances. Several world events including 9/11 and the Iraq War heavily impacted the travel industry and therefore heavily impacted our company. As a result, we had several lean years that taught us how to provide quality travel experiences that didn’t break the bank for our customers.
Joshua Expeditions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Joshua Expeditions is a non-profit Christian travel organization that has been providing purpose-filled travel for almost two decades. We offer a wide variety of experiences from education to mission trips and we can tailor any expedition to accommodate every budget and group size. Our passion is to offer a unique perspective on travel by filtering the travel experience through the Christian worldview.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
In my job, I love meeting the needs of those less fortunate through JE’s Ministry Fund. Every trip with JE helps support funding scholarships to students in need, building homes for hurting families, providing food for hungry children, and impacting low-income communities through long-term partnerships around the world.
