Never in a million years did I expect to leave corporate America. This was not the plan. Leaving my comfort zone and starting a business was never the plan. Thing is; ideas seem to change once your back is against the wall and you fall into this dark place every time you pull into the “workplace.” Saying my prayers and asking for a peaceful day became the normal routine before clocking in . My plans to work for corporate America until retirement started to change and the last few weeks of clocking in was all confirmation for me. It was time for me to rethink my so called “plans.” My days seemed to get worst day by day. I thought going to her boss was going to make things better. Wishful thinking. That’s when everything clicked. After many bad days, an unprofessional new manager, and coming home venting every day, I came to realize that I have to leave corporate America. “They left me no choice.”
After staying up late brainstorming with my husband for weeks about different business ideas, I decided I would start a business running errands for senior citizens and special need clients. Father’s day was coming up and my 1st promo would be to make gift baskets and deliver them to senior fathers. I made five baskets. I told my husband, “I don’t know about this, I don’t think people are going to buy these baskets. Father’s day 2019 came around and I sold over 50 gift baskets. A few weeks later I told my husband, “I got an idea, I’m going to invest in a Cricut machine I really can make some dope creations with that machine, I know it.” Three days later, my doorbell rang and it was a delivery driver with a huge box. My husband had ordered the Cricut machine that I’ve wanting for years!
Today not even a year into business Tailored Creations is currently pushing out orders daily! My business is growing daily. My knowledge about running a business, entrepreneurship, marketing is expanding and I’m so grateful for all the amazing people I’ve met along the way. This experience has taught me that sometimes it’s not always a bad thing to have your back against the wall. Sometimes you have to keep going through the storm, keep pushing against the discomfort, against the hate rooting against you. When they ask you how you did it, tell them, “they left me no choice.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it’s been smooth. Yes, I may have some rough days here and there but I believe that’s expected. My affirmations and reading books about business and entrepreneurship keep me going on the tough days.

Tailored Creations is a small gift shop located in Fort Worth. We specialize gifts for any occasion, along with home decor tailored for you and your family. Tailored Creations top sellers are the custom wood planks that are used for welcome signs and indoor decor. Each one of the products is handmade and personalized just for you. We strive to provide customer experience while making sure you are completely satisfied with your gifts.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment has most definitely been the day I sent out my 100th invoice. It’s more than just the number. One hundred different people trusted my business with there vision. One hundred different people that could have shopped anywhere, but they choose my company for there needs. Wow, I. did that.
