Meet Kaarthik Tharmiya and Kieran Gibbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaarthik Tharmiya and Kieran Gibbs.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kaarthik and Kieran. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started in RTVF 184. Kaarthik Tharmiya (Lead Vocals/Guitarist) met Kieran Gibbs (Drummer) during freshman orientation for the University of North Texas. Kieran saw an AC/DC shirt he liked that happened to belong to his future bandmate. After a conversation concerning the advent of “Axl/DC”, the two would eventually bond over a mutual admiration of filmmaking and the sacred art of rock ‘n’ roll. It took two semesters, but Kaarthik organized a few jam sessions with Kieran along with Kieran’s childhood friend Zach Murray. In the depths of a garage on Strata Street, Radio Wore was born.

Soon the process of gigging began in the back of Killer’s Tacos on an open mic night hosted by Caleb Coonrod (also frontman of the band Remain). They bounced between venues across Denton for about a year before recording their debut EP “Los Gatos”. Since the release of the EP a year ago, the band has since parted ways with Zach (though we wish him the best) and added new member Jonah Trachtman. Recently, a single from the album in progress (“Salute Me”) is set for release along with a lyric video. In the current pandemic, we plan to work to further our progress.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s one of the sharpest double-edged swords in all of the artistic expression we’re able to collaborate and craft something new with our favorite people in the world. It’s an art form that allows us to express. To create. Not every floor is filled, however. There are times when it isn’t populated at all. Denton’s VAST music scene is consistently flooding every local feed and attempting to stand out from that is a taxing pastime.

Please tell us about your music.
We’re a collective of individuals with something to say and tools to do so. We specialize in creating for not only the masses but ourselves. We live in the genre of blues and hard rock, with alternative tendencies. As a three-piece, filling the stage with a presence is a constant goal. What sets us apart from others is our lack of desire to be deterred by convention, and only to create something of auditory merit.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
It’s been the gift of the right place at the right time. There hasn’t been a multi-record deal, but we’ve been able to meet each other, create memorable performances, have the opportunity to be featured on a legendary radio station (97.1; The Eagle), and even meet the incomparable Dave Grohl (Nirvana & Foo Fighters). So far, nothing has kept us down so we can only hope for exponential luck in the future.
