Thanks for sharing your story with us Obi Lauryn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I found photography through one of my favorite activities binge-watching! I was supposed to be studying for a Microbiology test but got caught up watching an ANTM (Americas Next Top Model) marathon. I found myself studying how Nigel got certain shots, and soon after I picked up a camera and started trying to recreate those shots with friends and family. After taking some decent shots of that everyone seemed to love, I never put down my camera since.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’m a firm believer that nothing worth having comes easily. With that being said, this path has NOT been easy, but I’m actually really grateful for that. As my business grew, so did the number of roles I had to conquer. I attribute a lot of my adaptability, photo-knowledge and versatility to having to wear so many hats. Even now, I’ve had to learn new ways to reach and photograph my clients during the coronavirus outbreak.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Camera Magic by Devore story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a wedding & lifestyle portrait photographer based in Little Elm, TX. Camera Magic by Devore provides photography services to all of the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston area. My approach to photography is simple: I’m a storyteller. I love exposing the beautiful light of your reality, capturing your moments, and obsessing over the gorgeous details of your wedding day. I love capturing all the real, genuine and raw emotions on wedding days and between families and head over hills in love couples… My goal is to gain a new friend out of my clients by the end of our session.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Well, photography has been a very saturated industry, but I look forward to seeing what new trends develop as far as editing style. Right now, the film look is everything, but who knows. Maybe the polaroid style will make a comeback.
