Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Nugent.
Morgan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always loved all things fashion and beauty. I quickly fell in love with western fashion in high school while showing cattle in FFA/4H. After graduating, I was introduced to going dancing at places like the Fort Worth Stockyards and Silver Saloon in Terrell, Texas. I was mesmerized by all of the cute western inspired outfits. I quickly began searching for outfit inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest. As I searched, I found Instagram pages of influencers like Shaley Ham, Taylor Nobles, and MKenzee Thorn. An entire new world was revealed. I was so intrigued and inspired by their pages.
When my journey began, I did not have a lot to work with. I had to get really creative with what I had. Any time I went somewhere, I had my momma take an outfit picture for me outside in our front yard. I consistently posted outfit pictures for six months or so and that’s where it all began.
I had no idea that my Instagram would quickly grow into what I now call my Cactus Rose Family. That’s exactly what we are, a family. My main goal is to inspire women to stay strong, confident and motivated through sharing my love of western fashion and the western lifestyle. Confidence has always been a huge struggle for me. I have faced bullying and harassment since my freshman year of high school. As you can imagine, it has taken a large toll on me. I use those personal struggles to inspire other women through my Instagram. We are all in this together. Not one of us is better than the other. I always say that one woman is strong, but dang, when you get a group of strong women to stand together we’re invincible.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been a few pot holes along the way. My biggest struggle is battling confidence. I catch myself comparing myself and what I do to others. I get wrapped up in who I want to be like or what I need to do differently rather than focusing on who I am. I am my worst critic.
Please tell us about the business.
The Cactus Rose is a small business I created to express my love of vintage fashion. I am known for revamping/distressing vintage denim. Before creating The Cactus Rose, I quickly realized how difficult it is for girls my size and bigger to find any vintage denim. Something had to be done. I am putting an end to all stigmas with The Cactus Rose by carrying denim for baby girls up to plus size. I am a firm believer that fashion is for everyone, no matter the size. That is what makes me so proud to be the owner of Cactus Rose Denim Co.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am extremely excited to launch my website for The Cactus Rose this summer. As far as The Cactus Rose… who knows what the future might hold!
