Meet Abraham Ngomo of BramsTouch in Downtown Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abraham Ngomo.

Abraham, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A lot of my interest in menswear can be contributed to my upbringing. I was born in the heart of fashion, Paris, France, and later on, moved to my home country, The Democratic-Republic of the Congo. There I was captivated by “Les sapologues congolais” culture or Congolese “dandyism.” While intrigued by what I saw, I never dabbled in the art myself. It wasn’t until 2014, when I relocated to Dallas, TX, that my love for menswear and tailoring truly began to blossom. I started posting my ideas on Instagram as a sort of hobby but quickly realized that my posts were being shared at a growing rate.

Men would ask for style suggestions and women would tag their husbands, boyfriends, dads, and friends. I had a lot of people reaching out to me asking if I could style them for certain events or even asking where I had purchased my suits. It was all uphill from there. I started investing more in my own wardrobe whenever I got the chance. I bought from many different companies in the industry, but I felt like there was something missing and found myself not fully satisfied with the experience. That’s where I got the idea for BramsTouch.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say it was smooth. We were very blessed to have clients lined up before our big launch! However, one of my biggest struggles was the lack of familial support. If you know anything about growing up in an African household, you are expected to fall into one of the many “prestigious” careers, i.e., doctors, lawyers, or politicians. I had already completed three years of law school and having a family full of lawyers and politicians. It was really hard for close relatives to see me take a different path to follow my dream or even understand my decision. Drop law school to start a tailoring brand? That’s pretty much unheard of.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
BramsTouch is a made-to-measure experience that mixes the new age fitting with the sartorial tradition. We offer suits, shirts, trousers, jackets, vests, overcoats, hats, and accessories, all custom made to our client’s measurements and preferences. Our team makes sure that we provide them with a personal sense of elegance and a unique wardrobe. It is not just about the jacket and the pants; we are creating an environment where men can feel comfortable in the craftsmanship process. We have made it our personal mission to educate our clients on menswear and tailoring.

I am proud to say that we care more about relationships than anything. We strive to create a garment that they will have a personal history with and can be proud to wear over the years.

What were you like growing up?
I was known as the fashion-forward, risk-taking, extrovert type of friend. With that, I was always seeking out ways to use these characteristics to help other people become their best selves. This was evident in my pursuit of a law career as well as being a full-time Gospel preacher. Ultimately, I decided to take a step of faith by starting my business. All-in-all my interests have remained the same: God, menswear, style, family, community, art, traveling, and culture.
