Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin McCoy.
Kaitlin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
While at Texas A&M University (whoop!), I got the opportunity to help a friend with her wedding. It had always been a dream job of mine, but this was the first time I got to be hands-on with a wedding. From then on, it was meant to be! I worked for a florist, a planning and rental company, and a local DFW planner before creating my own business. I graduated with a Civil Engineering degree and a boutique wedding planning business that was taking off.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel like every business has a story. I, thankfully, have my corporate job to lean on. This makes creating my own business so much easier. I have the freedom to spend extra time and money on developing the brand I want without worrying about how many weddings I have. It has truly been so exciting getting to do both!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a wedding planner based in Mckinney, Texas. I specialize in bringing the Pinterest board (that is sometimes from when the bride was 12) to life. My favorite part of my business is getting to take something that might be trendy and put the personal spin on it that each couple deserves. I pay special attention to the little details during a wedding day. Sometimes that is carving out 20 minutes for the couple to eat their meal alone, or taking 5 minutes to walk them through the reception room before any guests enter.
What were you like growing up?
My parents would tell you I was the kid who always had to be at the adult table. I hardly had an interest in what my peers were talking about. I wanted to know everything about anything the adults were discussing. I’ve always been highly motivated and sure of what I want. I was always very organized and ready to move to the next step, whatever that was.
