Jasmine, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m 26, I’m a single mom to a beautiful three-year-old girl name Madisyn. She is the reason I chose to start my own business. When I held her in my arms, I told her and myself that I would give her the world and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
Moonchild Beauty was founded in 2018 when I decided to start making my own skincare products and one early morning @3am getting off at my bartending job, I was passing by the dumpster in my apt to park and something was shining sitting inside of the dumpster and it caught my eye… so, of course, being an elite dumpster diver, I checked it out. It ended up being a lipstick making a stand with the chemist cups to make the lipsticks and at that moment, I knew it was my purpose to start my own business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haha! Not at all! My small struggle was marketing my brand! Omg, I suck at the whole social media thing, from posting pictures to just staying active was very tough but now I’m sure people get tired of me on their feed.
My biggest struggle, being a single mom working paycheck to paycheck! There will be times that I don’t have the funds to buy supplies that I need to make products, so at that time, the business wasn’t moving. Those struggles are what got me and my business to the point where I’m strong and confident in myself to succeed.
