Meet Samantha Horwitz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Horwitz.

Sam is a 9/11 First Responder, former the United States Secret Service Agent, speaker and author. With her B.S. in Criminology and Criminal Justice, her J.D. from the Howard University School of Law, and experience as a Law Enforcement Officer, she has become an expert in handling stress and managing PTS. She has spoken nationally to Law Enforcement, Veteran, business, and faith-based communities on how to recognize and combat the effects of PTS, how to minimize the damage stress can cause in the workplace, and how to support those who have PTS.

Sam’s been featured in People Magazine, on ABC, CBS, Blaze TV with Glenn Beck, Lars Larson National Radio, and in other local and national media. She is the author of The Silent Fall: A Secret Service Agent’s Story of Tragedy and Triumph After 9/11. Sam serves on the board of Frontline Crisis Response Solutions, providing confidential support through wellness and resiliency for first responders and their families. Sam is also one of the founders of A Badge of Honor, providing educational workshops to first responders in learning about, combating, and managing post-traumatic stress. She is the co-host of the award-winning MAD (Making a Difference) Radio.

Sam is the recipient of the United States Secret Service Director’s Citation for Valor for her service on 9/11. Sam has also been honored with the Texas State Flag from the Texas House of Representatives in recognition of her service as the United States Secret Service Agent, and a Proclamation from the Texas Senate honoring her continued service to the citizens of the State of Texas.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not smooth. Managing post-traumatic stress triggers, suicide attempts, and learning how to turn tragedy into teaching tools has been a challenging and rewarding journey.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in post-traumatic stress and stress for the first responder as well as the average person and I present it from real-life experience. Everyone can remember where they were on 9/11, just as they can describe their experiences with COVID-19. Whichever the event, there are stresses and anxieties. I reveal tactics, strategies, and tools that people can utilize daily to help combat their stress no matter where it comes from. What sets me apart from others is I use my experience as a United States Secret Service agent and my personal journey with post-traumatic stress to provide “off the couch” non-clinical and non-traditional tactics to relieve stress and combat the symptoms related to post-traumatic stress.

I am most proud of the way my message “Be Courageous,” & my book has assisted countless people in deciding to get help instead of contemplating suicide as their answer.
