Today we’d like to introduce you to Vet.
So, before we jump into specific questions about your art, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been an avid recycler for many years and have made a conscious effort to incorporate discarded items in my artwork, workshops and commissions. I started out giving away surplus art supplies to friends, artists and students. I would also barter if I needed specific items. Over a period of time, I became the community conduit for recycled art-related surplus.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a mixed blessing in that people are very generous in their donations. The challenge is housing all the surplus until they can be passed on.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
I am a native Texas artist whose main focus re-purposing and re-designing discarded items. I have been touring nationally and regionally for over 25 years, where I offer hands-on classes, workshops and another customized programming that repurposes discarded items. I am a graduate of the University of Texas, Dallas (BA Arts & Performance). VET’s work has been on exhibit throughout the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Africa; and the recipient of numerous grants that include The National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA), Dallas Cultural Vitality Program, MetLife Foundation, and Urban Genesis. Incorporates environmental recycling awareness through her artwork, commissions, and workshops. Many of my murals and art installations combine the aesthetics of fine art with an inventive application of found objects.
Artcycle TX is a project run by VET, a Dallas-based artist who makes art out of discarded objects. Artcycle’s mission is to promote creative art expression while encouraging environmental responsibility through recycling.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
