Meet Bob Brooks of Prudent Money Financial Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bob Brooks.

Bob, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I went to Baylor, deciding on a career was easy. I knew that I liked solving problems for people. I knew that I enjoyed teaching. Finally, Wall Street always interested me. Being a financial advisor seemed to be the right fit. So I started my career in 1992.

In 2001, I was introduced to Don Spears who was about to retire and wanted someone to buy him out. Don and I hit it off immediately and decided to combine practices and I was to buy him out. Don also hosted a five day a week radio show. It was important that I also would take over the radio show. I was pretty intimated by the idea and initially declined. He persisted. I thought there is no way the radio station was going to let someone with no experience take over a weekday five o clock drivetime radio spot. God had other ideas. I also thought that God had a sense of humor to allow me to be on the radio. In 2002, I took over the radio show and almost 19 years later felt blessed to have the opportunity to educate and broadcast five days a week on 91.3 FM.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Navigating and managing investments brings its own set of challenges. Since I am an active money manager, my client’s investment accounts are always on my mind. My biggest challenge is managing time. I have my duties and obligations to my clients. I have an active writing scheduling where I write four blogs a week and a three to 4-page weekly client letter. Then there is managing the radio show. There is a lot on my plate. I am not complaining. I feel blessed!

Prudent Money Financial Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I solve problems. I find out what is not working in my client’s life and I seek to solve problems. I also have an active money management process. Said another way, I manage investments for risk and growth. Most advisors invest and don’t touch the money exposing them to unforeseen risks. I am known for my ability to manage money in down markets. I call it the plan B.

Most importantly, through one on one meetings with my clients and through the radio show, I teach people how to consider the other side of the story and think differently about money and investments. Pop Culture Finance teaches as if there are absolute truths. That 1+2=3. That is not reality because sometimes 1+2=4. The reality is that there is only one absolute truth when it comes to money. There are no absolute truths!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I really don’t look at it from that standpoint. Just like everyone else, I have had good times and bad times. Anything good that has happened to me is not of my doing. God provides every opportunity that comes along.
