Today we’d like to introduce you to Christie Dobbins.
Hi Christie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After twenty-plus years in Corporate America, in 2015 I transitioned into full-time ministry, preaching and teaching the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the United States and internationally. I have known I was called to be a minister of the gospel since the tender age of eight years old. Although I was raised in the church, the foundational tenets of my faith were established in my home. My father was a Deacon, and my mother was a teacher/preacher of the gospel. Like most children raised in the church, during my college and my young adult years, I attempted to “run” from the call of God, only to return wholeheartedly to Him after years of making poor decisions and reaping the consequences of those decisions. Today, I am an ordained minister, and I have taught in the school of ministry at my local church for the past seven years. In addition, I am the Principal and Founder of Christie Dobbins Ministries™.
In 2016, I founded Closing the Gap™ – a spiritual mentoring program for women designed to close the spiritual gaps that exist between and betwixt generations. What began as mentoring women one on one in 2012 transformed over time into a bi-monthly event of preaching, teaching, praying, and training the next generation of women in ministry. The tagline of Closing the Gap™ is “it can’t be explained, it must be experienced.” Closing the Gap™ is intentional about the cross-pollination of generations, uniting Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z. We equip and empower women to function and flow in their calling. As a result of the pandemic, in 2020 I began teaching an online class, The Art of Hearing™. The goal of this class is to help women develop and/or strengthen their communication with God. Women from around the world attended this class, including Canada, South Africa, Ethiopia, Ireland, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and throughout the United States. 2020 was a year of expansion for Christie Dobbins Ministries™.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Since the inception of the Church, women have faced obstacles in ministry. Some do not believe women should preach/teach, while others believe women can only minister to women and children. What I have learned is, any time you obey God, there will be opposition. However, the greatest obstacle I have encountered was the fight between myself and God. I had to fight me to finally submit to God’s will for my life. I had to fight me to surrender my plans, my dreams, and my goals to the purpose for which I was designed. Too often we focus on external obstacles when the real enemy is “in me.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently Christie Dobbins Ministries™ is expanding our online presence. Since August 2020, we began virtually hosting Closing the Gap™ monthly to better serve those in a community. The Art of Hearing™ will be offered one final time in 2021, and I am currently creating a curriculum to offer a new class. In addition, I am currently working in the nonprofit space and I serve as the Community Engagement Specialist for Alliance for Greater Works™.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the Dallas/Ft Worth Area. I have lived here for twenty years. I love the retail, the restaurants and the opportunities that exist for African Americans. The opportunities for people of color are endless, yet the “clicks” in Dallas can often be difficult to navigate. While Dallas is ripe for growth for business, ministry, and philanthropy, I have found the gatekeepers of the city can make it difficult to navigate your path to success.
