Conversations with Jeremiah Solomon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah Solomon.

Hi Jeremiah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born the son of a loving mother and father in Dallas, TX. My love for music began at a very young age. My father was a bass player so I guess it just sort of inevitably rubbed off onto me. Having lost my dad at the age of 12 impacted me pretty heavily. However, the love of music and support he showed me growing up remained. This story is told in one of my earliest songs, “Man Down.” I love music because I’ve seen the power it has to unite and heal people. If I can have that impact on just a few people, then I’ve won in my opinion. In an effort to stay connected with my undeniable love for music, I began producing beats my sophomore year of high school under the alias “Soulfood Productions.” From there, the rest is history. At the age of 19, I took on the name “Wreck” and donned the term “Wreck Em’,” which means being yourself unapologetically, bringing what good you have to the world at all times. That’s what its all about for me!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I must admit it hasn’t always been pretty, I began as mostly a one-man team but with the help of family and some close friends of mine, I manage to get by pretty ok. I create all of my songs on my own entirely from production down to promotion once they’re released. A major obstacle for me starting out was production quality but as time passed, everything has definitely improved, as I’m sure my audience will agree once my spring project “Night Life” releases. The love and support of my listeners mean the world to me. They remind me everyday that what I’m doing means something and is bigger than me. With a support system fueled by the love of those who believe in me, I can’t lose. I’m truly thankful to God for them.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I try my best to be genuine at all times when creating. I feel I owe it to my listeners to make it clear that none of us are perfect and that’s ok, so long as we constantly strive to be better. I like to think of myself as a very hard and meticulous worker. I won’t quit until the job is done to the best of my capabilities. I think it really shows in my music too, comparing my first single “Bump Up” to my most recent project, “The Hill,” there’s definitely a lot of visible growth there. My love for funk and soul is what sets me apart from many artists my age. I love those groovy baselines and my percussion with a bit of finesse!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
In my personal experience, I’ve learned that by doing something for the love of it will take you much further than strategy. Once you make that leap to put your head down and do the work and face challenges head-on, the opportunities tend to find you. It’s important not to get caught up in the hunger for attention.
