Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Charles Powell.
Dr. Powell, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I retired from military service as Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy in 2005. I served as Director of Clinical Services at the Naval Ambulatory Care Clinic located in New Orleans and Staff Emergency Physician at the Saint Charles Parish Hospital. I’m very grateful for my time in the military because of the expertise and experience I received during those years. This was also a sound way to finance my education.
After my military retirement, I joined Healthcare Associates of Texas in Irving and continue to practice there to this day. When I joined, HCAT was a dynamic practice of family medicine physicians. The growth we have seen over the years can be attributed to the strength and stability of the practice’s foundation. In addition to seeing patients, I now serve as the Executive Vice President of Clinical Operations.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If the road had been smooth, it would not have been worth the ride. Throughout the years, I’ve had challenges but no struggles. Honestly, I embrace challenge and have fun in situations where I can problem solve in any and all capacities.
Healthcare Associates of Texas – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Healthcare Associates of Texas was founded in Irving in 1991. Yes, over 26 years ago. We are very proud of our history in the area but have also enjoyed growth. We currently have three North Texas locations in Irving, Coppell, and McKinney.
We treat our patients like family. We provide them with a total continuum of care by offering comprehensive family medicine and ancillaries under one roof. This means our patients can see a doctor, get an MRI, have physical therapy, get a blood draw, and fill a prescription all in one place.
We also place a high priority on technology and how it can benefit our patients. We recently implemented the revolutionary BioFire Film Array. With this effective diagnostic tool, we can test a patient for respiratory and gastrointestinal infections and get results in one hour to diagnose. Current testing methods in most hospitals and doctor’s offices could take days to get results. This is truly an amazing tool that will allow us to treat our patients more quickly and with the correct course of action. Healthcare Associates of Texas is the first outpatient primary care clinic in the southern United States to have this technology which was previously available in only a few advanced hospitals.
Our board-certified physicians, complemented by certified Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, are dedicated to providing our patients, our family, with quality medical care in an environment that promotes trust and comfort.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I value relationships and always doing the right thing in those relationships. That consistently makes me proud of Healthcare Associates of Texas…our company and our providers.
