Today we’d like to introduce you to Simeon Aston Covell Walker.
Hi Simeon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Simeon Aston Covell Walker. I was born and raised in Arlington, TX. I currently reside in Mansfield. I am 21 years old and will be 22 in February. As a child, I was very imaginative. A lot of times I didn’t need anyone to play with because I made a world out of what was given to me. I consider myself an artist in the whole sense of the word. I do not wish to limit myself to one medium by being called anything else. I just love to create. I have delved into various art forms such as photography, graphic design, fashion, ink painting, video production, and my most recent endeavor, music.
I would have to say photography may be my favorite out of all of them. I have been doing photography since high school. As far as the subject matter, I specialize in self-portraiture and abstract photography. My dream is to be able to travel the world and take pictures and be able to capture God’s handiwork through a lens. My greatest inspiration is God Himself. The greatest artist. Seeing all of the intricacies of nature and how they all connect is a feat that only a higher power could conjure up. I also started making music for about a year and a half ago. What caused me to start writing music was a bad break up at the end of summer in 2019. Before then, I really wasn’t interested in making music simply because I thought space was oversaturated and I didn’t really have anything to say.
During that time, I was going through the Rollercoaster of emotions of the break up I also was fired from my job. So I was stuck in the house for a significant amount of time, not really having an outlet for the emotions that came with the pain of my situation. So I decided to start writing. And eventually, I started recording. The intent was just to do it to process my feelings. I was making music for myself. It was a while before I sent my music to a handful of friends and listened to. It was even longer before I released my first song entitled “BRBERRYBLL”, which pretty much encompasses the reason why I started making music. Ever since then, I have fallen in love with the process of making music. I have written 700+ verses since then and have a lot of music in the vault brewing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel like any road worth going is not going to be an easy ride. Smooth is relative. I wouldn’t consider the road to have been rough either. But obstacles are placed in front of you in order for you to grow. These last 3 or 4 years I have garnered a lot of growth spiritually, mentally, and physically. My biggest struggle I would say, is procrastination. You can’t get anywhere without execution. There are certain things that I wish I would have put more time into than others, but I’m still young and eager to learn. I know greatness will be revealed in me with time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in self-portraiture and abstract photography. Musically I have such a wide variety of influences and inspirations I cant and don’t want to put myself in any specific category. I’m known mainly for my photography. I started photography back in high school and even won a few awards for my work. I don’t do it for any monetary reason I just enjoy the process, to be completely honest. And that’s with music or photography. I would say how proud of how far I’ve come with my growth musically within the short amount of time I’ve been doing it. I write music almost daily, sometimes 4 or 5 a day, depending on how I’m feeling. What’s sets me apart from others is that I try my hardest not to be like anyone else. From the way that I dress to the art I create. I’m a trend hater, lol. I feel like whatever is truly genuine and quality will stand the test of time.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about my city is there are a lot of talented undercover creatives in the DFW area. What I like least about it (and I’m sure this happens everywhere) people may not support what you’re doing because you don’t have a big following. I’m not saying that for myself either. I understand I’m pretty young on the scene but I know others who have been putting out quality work consistently and don’t get the support they deserve. Every wants to be like Mike but even he couldn’t have got where he did without a solid team.
