Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert McGullam.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After graduating from Arizona Automotive Service Technology in Glendale, I moved back home to California and started my apprenticeship at my local Chevrolet dealer. After working there for several years, I was recruited by the auto shop instructor at the high school ROP program. The Regional Occupational Program is unique, as to that it buses in students from all the area high schools to one location. This experience was only for one year before relocating to Texas. There I continued to work for the local Chevy dealer until the events of 9/11. Along with most businesses, the automotive service industry took a huge hit. This brought me to start looking, and in early 2002 I started with Mercedes-Benz. This was a very exciting time, repairing the most advanced automobile in the world. Not to mention getting to meet several pro athletes from the Dallas area teams.
In 2010, I started a new chapter, I left the dealership and start working for an independent repair shop. This started the learning curve all over again. After working at a couple of different shops, I found my home away from home at Dallas European Auto in Plano, Texas.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As shop manager of Dallas European Auto, some of the obstacles that I face is keeping a balance of client demand and an available technician. We are a smaller repair shop with only 6 service bays, which allows me the opportunity to keep quality in the work we perform. The demand challenge can get a little tricky sometimes. But with our knowledge of the product and vast databases, I take pride in the process which returns the vehicle back to the owner in a timely fashion.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dallas European Auto – what should we know?
Dallas European Auto was started almost 10 years ago by Amir Ahmadian, a former co-worker of mine at Mercedes-Benz. The business outgrew the little industrial park shop, which brought the business to its current location. There Amir partnered up with Norman Lipow, previously a service advisor at the same Mercedes dealership.
We specialize in the Mercedes-Benz product, but are privileged to work on all makes and models. We even have a very large client base that brings their Bentley’s to Dallas European. We are known for our attention to detail, and our repeat business is proof. Our online reviews are nearly perfect, and we thank each and everyone that takes the time to praise our work. I am the most proud when I meet new clients, and the comment is, “That we came highly recommended”.
Dallas European Auto is your one-stop shop, and your dealer alternative. What sets us apart from other independents, is our ability to purchase and program theft relevant parts such as ignition switches and control units.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Some of the essential qualities I oversee, is cleanliness. The cleaner the environment, the better product we can produce and in a more timely fashion. I take great pride in bringing out my client out into a clean shop area, to show and discuss the repairs needed on their vehicle. There is no better feeling, than to have a client make the comment about how clean the shop area is.
