Meet Kathleen Warshawsky of Seniors Blue Book Greater Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Warshawsky.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my nursing career in 1992 as a registered nurse in Manitoba, Canada, eventually obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona in 2013.

After graduation, my first position was in IV therapy. However, as a registered nurse for over 25 years, I have experienced many different areas of nursing; from clinical practice at the bedside and in the operating room, to administrator, director of nursing, clinical educator, orthopedics, home healthcare, and the list goes on.

In November of 2014, I came across Seniors Blue Book on the internet and knew that I was going to bring it to the Dallas area. I had been looking for an opportunity that would allow me to help people without providing direct patient care, while giving back to the community; I wanted to make a difference in peoples lives. Seniors Blue Book helps me to do that.

Today, I am the owner and publisher of Seniors Blue Book Greater Dallas, a comprehensive senior resource guide for seniors, caregivers and healthcare professionals. Additionally, I am President of a non-profit, voluntary organization, the Dallas Area Gerontological Society whose purpose is to provide continuing education programs, academic scholarships, and advocacy for senior issues.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is full of twists and turns that make it interesting. I prefer to smile and have a happy day.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Seniors Blue Book Greater Dallas – what should we know?
Seniors Blue Book Greater Dallas is a comprehensive resource guide of services, senior housing options, resources and information for aging well. It is designed to enrich the lives of our elder population while affording those businesses and individuals serving that population a unique medium to present their products and services.

We are committed to providing the most complete and comprehensive resources available and are constantly working on compiling new information, expanding our distribution and enhancing existing categories. We list over 70 categories of information, most of which are free resources that support the community.

Additionally, for the professionals who coordinate the services for seniors, we provide a discharge planners resource notebook, and offer networking and educational calendars, newsletters and programs.

I am most proud that I am able to educate caregivers, seniors and professionals. Each addition I donate some ad space to non-profit and government services with the purpose of providing education and bringing awareness to their programs. I provide educational articles both in the resource guide and at SeniorsBlueBook.com. I also coordinate educational programs for healthcare professionals and give presentations at events.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My ability to solve problems. It allows me to view things from multiple angles when presented with a challenge or an issue. I was taught that every problem has at least one solution and sometimes many solutions. You may need to take your time and be patient while solving the problem but not to give up, if you keep trying, you will eventually find a solution.
