Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne McNeill.
Suzanne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Suzanne McNeill has walked a creative path for as long as she can remember. Her love of art began, as most young souls do, with a big box of crayons and a stack of coloring books. Over time, Suzanne focused her artistic efforts on handcraft techniques. She was lucky to be able to pursue degrees in Art and Biology at SMU.
Design Originals – In 1984 Suzanne started a publishing company. Known as Design Originals, hundreds of how-to books were published that fully embraced the creative process… beading, embroidery, cross stitch, polymer clay, quilting and everything handmade. She thoroughly enjoys sharing creative techniques and imagination in the books that she authored,
Sparks Studio Art – In 2013 Suzanne started a creative studio and art gallery. Know as Sparks Studio Art, Suzanne and her talented team teach classes and develop creative art. Her greatest joys include collaborating with students, associates, and other creative people.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So many creative ideas! Such limited time!
The biggest struggle is finding enough time to pursue everything I love. I love to create, travel, read, sketch, paint and hang out with friends.
Inspiration overload! Is that even possible? I NEVER have enough. I’m like a bottomless pit.
Sparks Studio Art – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Workshops and classes at Sparks Studio Art include a wide range of art mediums and techniques. The common thread in all of our classes is having fun with like-minded friends while learning! We work hard, we play hard, we create!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Suzanne is a designer, author, art instructor, and lover of everything hands-on. Her paintings have been called “mesmerizing art.” She has a BS in Art and Biology from SMU, was “Designer of the Year”, and received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Craft & Hobby Association.
